Hayley Atwell Addresses About “Sharon Kiss”:
It was just great that Avengers: Endgame managed to include almost every MCU actor & character that has played an important role in the Marvel family. They didn’t bring in just Heimdall & Phil Coulson, but rest we got to see some of the key characters and moments recreated. The film brought back Hydra thugs like Alexander Pierce, Jasper Sitwell & Brock Rumlow, along with Loki, Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, Hank Pym & many others. Let’s talk about Peggy Carter and Captain America.
People were actually happy to see Steve get a happy retirement as he went back to the past in order to live a life with the love of his life, Peggy Carter. When Steve went to the movie’s ‘Closure land’ that was the 1970s, he got to see his love after such a long time. He was obviously around when Peggy was on her death bed, but looking at Peggy in the 1970s just brought back all the love and affection he had for her. So, it isn’t a surprise that after clipping all the branches, Captain America went to the past in order to live with Margret. It was such a sweet ending for us fans, even though the time travel part of it was initially a bit confusing.
But there was another question that people were struck with. Back in Civil War, Steve & Sharon kissed each other, and people actually thought that it was morally wrong for Steve to then leave Sharon hanging and go back to his former flame. Well, first of all, in the MCU timeline that kiss happened 7 whole years ago. There was a 2-year time gap between Civil War and Infinity War, and then Sharon was snapped for 5 whole years. So, a lot could happen in 7 years, and Steve & Sharon probably moved on in those 2 years between Civil War & Infinity War itself.
So there was nothing wrong with Steve going back to live with Peggy instead. What would be wrong is doing this while Steve was dating Sharon as well, and then not even telling Peggy about her niece. With this in mind, people have also been thinking whether Steve actually told Peggy about the Sharon kiss. Hayley Atwell (Peggy) recently spoke to IGN, and she was asked about this question.
Now while it is upon our own imagination, Atwell does confirm the fact that Steve would have come clean with her. She said:
“Probably, in a very awkward way, that probably meant there was a domestic. Words were said, voices may have risen. Wouldn’t that be hilarious? If they had a proper argument about it and she just slams the door and he goes off fishing for the weekend for something, I don’t know. Because it’s the ’40s I think it can have such a beautiful, wholesome, kind of screwball comedy tone to it, rather than a soap opera. Let’s write it now, let’s do it.”
Well, we do love Hayley’s idea about this whole situation. Honestly, we love these characters so much that at this point of time, we’d love even if they get back together to do a soap opera about living a normal life. So, that brings us to the question of whether Evans & Atwell will ever be returning to the MCU.
The answer is that they most certainly are gonna return, but only to voice their characters in the upcoming animated show that Marvel Studios is producing. “What if…?” on Disney+ is going to bring back every MCU actor to show alternative scenarios of every MCU film they’ve ever made. In the Captain America episode, Peggy Carter is going to take the Super Soldier serum instead of Steve, and she’d become Captain Britain.
This brings us to another question – Is Peggy Carter stealing MCU’s Captain Britain title?
The Answer – probably not! These are just alternative scenarios that Marvel is bringing at us. They won’t hold any truth in the live-action films. But yes, Captain Britain is coming to the MCU for sure as it was set up by Avengers: Endgame. Peggy’s stint as Captain Britain will definitely be used to spread general awareness about the character. But wouldn’t it be great to see Haylee Atwell kick everyone’s ass as Captain Britain? Think about it.
