Vin Diesel has become one of the biggest names in Hollywood, and it’s mainly because of the Fast and Furious franchise that turned him into a massive star. We love him for whatever he does, whether it is XXX, Riddick or Dominic Toretto, but Marvel fans love him for his voice over for the really adorable Groot. In hindsight, no one could have done a better job at voicing Groot other than Diesel.
He has played Groot for two movies and is probably in for 3 more movies (considering Groot does not die, again!) with Marvel, but this is just a small role and he is capable of giving us way more than just I am Groot!
In an interview with MTV, Vin Diesel said that Groot solo movie is inevitable. Here’s what he said:
“It’s something that James Gunn has talked about, and something that I know he’d love to do. Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it’s inevitable, I think that character’s so enigmatic. He was already one of the most unique characters in the Marvel Universe, and I think what Marvel has done, primarily what James Gunn has done to realize that character has exceeded anyone and everyone’s expectations.”
He added:
“He’s such an interesting character, and there’s so much to learn about him, and you know he, I’d love to go back to his planet and learn more about him and I think the world would. He’s really a genius on a lot of levels, just we can only hear him say “I Am Groot” because of our sophistication level, not his.”
Vin Diesel would like to see Groot having a larger role in Infinity War and meet this Avenger. He said:
“I’m excited about Baby Groot; he’s just too fun. And in Infinity War, I have to talk to the Russo brothers and find out how this is all gonna go down. I know somewhere in the Marvel universe there is a moment when you will see Groot and Hulk have a few words.”
He has proven time and time again that he is one of the best action heroes currently existing in Hollywood and he has been considered for many Superhero roles even before he got the part of the humanoid talking tree.
Way back in the days around 2013, he was being considered to play the role of Vision in the MCU, but as things turned out, Jarvis’ Voice Actor eventually got the part and Vin Diesel got to play Groot instead.
Later, when Marvel released their new movie slate with Inhumans in it, Diesel was being considered to play the Inhuman king Blackbolt in the movie which would have come out in 2019.
But, things changed pretty quickly towards the latter half of 2016, and Marvel announced that instead of giving the Inhumans a movie of their own, it would be better if they got a TV series, and thus a TV series was announced for 2017 and Anson Mount got cast as Blackbolt. Diesel got really angry with the studio briefly as they sidestepped him and did not follow his advice of making an Inhumans movie.
Vin Diesel has played two more fictional superpowered characters and most of the fans that got to witness them were pretty pleased with him. They loved him for Riddick when he played the kick-ass character for 3 movies, and can’t wait to see more of that, and in 2015, he appeared as Kaulder in The Last Witch Hunter which also left a great impression on the fans.
Now, what these three particular roles (Riddick, Kaulder, and Groot) indicate is that Vin Diesel would really shine in a comic book role and he should be cast in a live-action Superhero role as soon as possible as his fan base would love to see that.
Well, their dreams might be coming true as he is in talks for another comic book adventure, and this one looks to be way more violent than Marvel’s most adorable tree.
According to the new reports that have hit the internet recently, Diesel is being considered to star in Sony’s ‘Bloodshot’ movie which is based on the Valiant Comics of the same name.
Sony is currently moving ahead with its own shared Universe other than Venom, based on the Bloodshot and Harbinger comics. This new report even suggests that they have a plan to release 5 movies in this Universe and Diesel’s Bloodshot will play one of the lead roles throughout these 5 movies. Just when Fox is selling rights off its major characters to Disney, Sony cinematic universe is trying to mount some competition to behemoth called MCU in the growing superhero movie genre.
The Report also says that Bloodshot is also likely to follow the new trend of R-rated Comicbook movies which was started by Deadpool and Logan and has been passed on to New Mutants as well. This is also sometimes known as “Deadpool effect” as it stylized full-throttle action meant for the hardcore audience who have a hunger for real gritty stuff. The studios are now more open to R-rating after the massive success of Deadpool.
Adding Vin Diesel’s name could very well turn this franchise into a huge success as well because he certainly is a money maker and any studio would like to have him on their side. Diesel is a huge name in town and roping him in for a new superhero movie will certainly lend credibility to the project. He definitely looks the part and is the ‘right fit’ for the role. He will likely deliver at the box-office too.
Diesel would join a familiar face if he gets attached to this particular project, as he will be reuniting with the Fast & Furious producer Neal Moritz, along with Valiant’s Dinesh Shamdasani.
Dave Wilson has been hired to direct this project along with screenwriter Eric Heisserer who worked on Arrival and will write a script for this movie. Dave Wilson’s take on this ultra-violent character will be “tonally and aesthetically influenced” by the hit sci-fi films of the 80s, which include movies like Robocop and Terminator.
Well, what more could Vin Diesel fans ask for! They are gonna get Vin Diesel kick some ass in the R-rated fashion. Diesel ain’t got serious acting chops, this guy has not done period dramas in his life but he sure knows how to punch hard, ride an expensive sports car or just blowing shit up with ammo.
We can expect to hear more about this particular shared Universe trying to launch itself, as Valiant comics has the third largest arsenal of superheroes, behind DC Comics and Marvel and we would love to see what they have to offer on the big screen as well.
Sony now has two big names attached to its upcoming comic book movies, Tom Hardy as Venom and possibly Vin Diesel as Bloodshot. Venom will be released next year on October 5, 2018, and they are planning to get Bloodshot out for a 2019 release, which is great. Sony is getting its mojo back. It seems that a parallel universe is in the making which is a non-MCU and non-DCEU and all comic-book fans should welcome Sony’s efforts to build their own cinematic universe.
