10 Casting Rumors For DC Movies That We Are Glad Didn’t Happen

The DCEU has its demons but on one field where it has absolutely nailed it is the casting choices. Ben Affleck as the Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller are dead on perfect for the DCEU. Even Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s Flash seem so fitting for their role. But if things would have gone a little different in DC movies if the casting could have ended up in disaster.

10. Matthew Goode as Superman

The DCEU kicked off with Snyder’s Man of Steel in 2013. The movie garnered a lot of criticism for showing Superman as a brooding fellow filled with remorse and angst. But the movie could have been panned even more had the original choice for Superman been roped in. Matthew Goode was supposed to play Kal-El, not Cavill. Goode had worked with Snyder in Watchmen (2009) as the villain Ozymandias. Thank the Gods, it never happened.

9. Adam Driver as Nightwing

The Kylo Ren of Star Wars once was rumored to have been offered the chance of playing Nightwing in the DCEU. Dick Grayson was the first Robin under Batman’s tutelage. After having a falling out with him, Dick moves to Bludhaven and operates as the crime-fighting vigilante called Nightwing. WB studios decided to scrap those plans after Driver’s commitment to the Star Wars franchise came to light.

8. Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor

The hit TV Show Breaking Bad had just finished airing its last season when rumors started circulating that Cranston could be cast as Lex Luthor in Dawn of Justice. Both were bald and both had experiences in managing criminal empires. It sounded like the perfect casting but it was far from being so. Cranston is too old to play Lex Luthor simply due to the fact that Cavil’s Superman is too young for an arch nemesis as old as the former.

7. Ryan Gosling as The Joker

Hate him all you want but Leto’s performance as The Joker was still good. The only problem was that the previous actors’ portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime was too good in comparison to Leto’s. As a result, Leto was cursed to stay in the shadows. But if fate would have had its way, it wouldn’t even have been Leto playing the Joker. Ryan Gosling was rumored to play that role. But his acting style is vastly different to play something this intense.

6. Elodie Yung as Wonder Woman

Before there was Gal, it was Yung who was rumored to essay the role of the Princess of the Amazons. Elodie is well known among the fans as Elektra of Netflix’s Daredevil TV Series. Elodie Yung is a gifted actor and she could have done justice to the role of Wonder Woman but Gal was much, much better suited to play the most iconic super-heroine of the DC Universe.

5. Alexandra Daddario as Wonder Woman

There are tons of actresses who would have been equally gratifying to watch as Wonder Woman on screen. Daddario would not have been one of them. Her accent and her pretty face would mean that Wonder Woman could have been played by anyone. Wonder Woman is the beacon of Womanhood and its beauty throughout the world. Casting a white American actor as Wonder Woman would have sent the wrong message.

4. Grant Gustin as DCEU Flash

When Flash was revealed to be a part of the Justice League, one section of fans staged mindless uproars for casting Gustin as the Flash in the movie, not Ezra Miller. Apart from the serious ramifications for the TV Universe it could have cost, it would have also been confusing to watch Gustin play the Scarlet Speedster in both the DCEU and the Arrowverse.

3. Chris Pine as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern

As the then newest DC slate revealed, Chris Pine was to play a DC character in an upcoming DCEU movie. Many theorized that Chris would play Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern. But as the dust settled down, Chris Pine confirmed he is poised to play Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot in the movie Wonder Woman. It was the better choice.

2. Sean Bean as Ares

Sean Ben is a fairly known figure in the Hollywood industry. He was also rumored of being a part of a DC movie. No one knew for sure if Ares was going to be the big bad in Wonder Woman. David Thewlis’ big reveal as the God of War came as a shocker for many. If Sean Ben would have made even a guest appearance, maybe the fans would have known for sure that Ares is going to appear.

 1. Eva Green as Circe

DC movies

Eva Green has a penchant to play every role the same freaking way. Each role she plays is somewhat linear and straightforward. She was rumored to play Circe in Wonder Woman. Circe is a sorceress from Greek mythology that turns her enemies into animals. While that would have made for an entertaining plot element in the movie, Green couldn’t have done justice to the role.
