Where Are MCU’s Infinity Stones After Thor Ragnarok?

Thor Ragnarok just got released and knocked it out of the park. It is the funniest Marvel movie ever and best Thor movie for sure. The movie has opened to a massive opening weekend and has raked in over $170 million already. The first reactions from the audience is very positive and everything from visual effects to storytelling is just impeccable. The movie is sitting on 96% on Rotten Tomatoes at present.

It is the latest Marvel movie inspired from Jack Kirby’s Ragnarok comic wherein Asgard is burned to the ground and rebuilt from the ashes. The plot revolves around Thor’s struggle to stop goddess of death from destroying his home planet. The critics have heaped massive praise on Taika Waititi direction style and the fun elements introduced in the movie.

The studio has been building the hype of Thanos over a series of films, so expectations of Marvel fans are very high, some even believe that the movie will not only break record of highest box-office collections for a superhero movie, but of any movie. Till now, Thanos has only been teased in Marvel movies in post-credits of Phase 2, 3 films, but Infinity war will be the first major project where he is going to be the big villain hell-bent on total destruction. But he can do that only if he takes possession of powerful Infinity stones that are scattered across the realm.

Anthony Russo, the co-director of the movie described it as a heist movie where Thanos will spend time strategizing in order to steal Infinity stones. In an interview with CNET, Russo Brothers spoke about how they were inspired by heist movies for Avengers Infinity War. Here’s what they said:

avengers

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.

In the MCU, there are six infinity gems that Thanos needs to assemble an infinity gauntlet and control literally every aspect of cosmic existence. There are five Infinity stones that have been introduced but soul stone is yet to be discovered. Here’s what the Collector said:

“Before creation itself, there were six singularities. Then the universe exploded into existence, and the remnants of these systems were forged into concentrated ingots… Infinity Stones.”―The Collector

Here’s a list of Infinity gems and their current location in the MCU:

Power gem:

It is purple in color and gives the user ability to access all forms of energy and boosts the power of other gems. It is on Nova Corps, homeland of Xandar which will soon be stolen by Thanos.

Reality gem:

It is the Aether from Thor: The Dark World, it has superlative mystical abilities, grants the user to make things happen that are otherwise impossible. It is ideally in the Collector’s vault but it could really be anywhere in the after of destruction of his museum.

Time gem:

It is green in color and we will see it for the first time how it allows the user to control time. It’s very likely to be found in “Eye of Agamotto” in possession of Dr. Strange.

Soul Gem:

It is blue in color which gives the user the innate abilities to see across the entire universe. It is yet to be discovered.location of soul stone revealed

Mind gem:

It is yellow in color when it’s used to power gem it allows the user to simultaneously track the minds of all beings in the galaxy and manipulate them at will. It is on Vision’s forehead and Thanos will come for it.

Space gem:

It is the first Infinity stone, popularly known as Tesseract which allows you to be omnipresent and warp yourself in any part of the universe. It is orange in color (although it was shown in blue) and sits at the top of the fist. Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D said in ‘The Avengers’ – “Howard Stark fished that out of the ocean when he was looking for you. He thought what we think; the Tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That’s something the world sorely needs.”

It’s very likely that the post-credit scene of Thor: Ragnarok will be the first scene of Avengers Infinity War. Why is Thanos interested in Thor’s ship? Well, at the end of Thor: Ragnarok, when Loki went inside treasure room to bring Surtur alive, he looked at Tesseract and must have grabbed it because he is God of mischief. The ship will probably be destroyed by Thanos and Loki will gladly hand over the Infinity stone to him.

Here’s the official synopsis of the movie:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.

Avengers Infinity War will be released on May 4, 2018.
