Deadpool 2: The Deadpool and Cable Chemistry Will Be Insanely Awesome

The global box office collections of Deadpool broke records and earned in excess of $800 million while the cost of production was less than $60 million, the movie now holds the record for highest ever R-rated opening weekends, President’s day weekends and most successful superhero movie in the entire X-men franchise.

Such an incredible showing at the global box-office immediately spurred the talk of a follow-up movie, the studio immediately greenlit the sequel. Deadpool 2 is under production and we know that Josh Brolin will be playing an iconic character Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool).

Josh Brolin has been teasing his transformation on social media for months and now finally fans got the entire look of him.

He said this on the elaborate makeup process of Cable:

“Insanity on the brink. Face is morphing into something machine, fierce, hair sliced, arm machined, bulged. Where is Deadpool?!? Looking. Looking. All I got are these two…molding me, prodding, turning me into something hard. @bcorso #mikesmithson #deadpool #ivebeencabled #cableswole @weprevail”

In comics, he is the time-travelling son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey) who was trained to be the warrior in the future, who return as an older man in the present. He has telepathic and telekinetic powers. He is like an anti-hero who would be able to balance the scales as a foil to Deadpool’s “happy go murdery” persona.

The speculation is that perhaps Mister Sinister’s storyline can be tied with the Deadpool sequel, in Marvel comics he is obsessed with Scott Summers and believes that he could create a powerful mutant to kill Apocalypse which he later discovered to be Cable/Nathaniel Summers. In the end, Deadpool-Cable takes him down for good and create X-Force in the end.

The fans praised the look of Cable as its closer to his comic-book counterpart. David Leitch, the director of Deadpool 2, he won’t just look but also act like his comic-book character.

He said in an interview with CBR that the tone of the movie will be lifted from comic-book pages. He said that the fans of Deadpool and Cable comics should be excited about the film. Here’s his full quote:

“Cable has a really interesting and complex back story. Obviously, no film could ever encapsulate the entire backstory, so I think we’ll find the first introduction is about who this character is. When you look at the Cable and Deadpool comic book series, you see how there is banter between them. Whether they are on opposite sides or not, they are definitely formidable to each other. One is frustrating to the other. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin is amazing. It’s not unlike what you see in the Cable and Deadpool series”.

He added that he is free to adapt character without any boundaries and he will be pushing the same in the movie. He said:

The success of the first film has given us license to explore opening up the world and actually being more provocative. That’s what people are going to expect. They did such an incredible job with the first film — I’m such a huge fan, that it’s exciting to get to play in that sandbox. The fun thing about Deadpool is, there are no rules. Look at the comic book series. There aren’t any rules. We break them! That’s what is fun.

The entire team of the original movie is coming back, from Blind-Al to Vanessa, the driver, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead will be reprising their roles. Cable is in the mix, he is the time-travelling son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey) who was trained to be the warrior in the future. Moreover, Domino (mercenary turned X-Men) has been confirmed by the makers.

Both of these can play an anti-hero in order to balance the scales to Deadpool’s “happy go murdery” persona. It’s not clear yet if other mutants will crossover, but there is strong speculation that there will be a new kind of mutant, never before seen in the comics or movies.

In a recent interview with THR, Rhett Rheese (script-writer) pointed out that if we want to compete with MCU or DCEU, the tone of the Deadpool movies needs to be ‘sillier’ and ‘edgier’ as that really worked for the first movie.  He said –

“I think what we stumbled into was a new tone, and I haven’t seen Logan, so it’s tough to say if they have it, but I think we hope to have our own universe that is defined less by characters and timelines and things like that and more by tone. The hope is Deadpool 2 and X-Force and future movies all be this new, consistent, sillier tone. More self-aware tone. And edgier and rated-R tone. We want to be establishing the universe but also focusing on each individual movie and not worrying too much about building a larger threat to the world or a larger plot machination.”

He added:

“There is a responsibility we have towards the X-Force universe, and I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into Deadpool 2. Its purpose is not to set up X-Force. It will likely set up X-Force, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on Movie 3.”

It is currently shooting scenes at Hatley Castle which is used for X-Mansion where young mutants are trained to harness their powers and become productive members of the society. The Deadpool sequel is not directly linked to X-Men universe, but there will be plenty of references to X-Men movies especially Wolverine. The plot details are yet to be revealed. We can expect more set photos, leaks, teasers, behind-the-scenes footage etc. in the coming weeks. The movie is a hard R and will be over the top when it comes to trolling fellow superheroes and villains.

The official set photo revealed Wade Wilson all suited up and lounging outside Charles Xavier’s mansion. Deadpool posted this on twitter:

“Dropped by the X-Mansion. Big f*cking surprise. No one’s home.”
