Little Finger Is More Evil Than We Thought And Will Finally Die

Petyr Baelish or popularly known as the Little finger is one of the fascinating character on any T.V show ever. He is a master conspirator. He served on the small council of King Robert Baratheon as “Master of the coin”, moved on to become Lord of Harrenhal with his gift for political improvisation, and now he is Lord Protector of the Vale. He has an uncanny ability to play everyone at once and gets exactly what he wants. He has played with Cersei Lannister, Sansa Stark, Roose Bolton in the North, only to rise further and further. He is always the winner, no matter who is fighting whom. He has sky-high ambitions and drives which make him nothing short of a major contender for the Iron Throne in his own eyes.

Little Finger Is More Evil Than We Thought And Will Finally Die

In the season 6 finale, we saw Little Finger in the corner who does’nt seem pleased with the turn of events, exchanged a devious look with Sansa Stark. He earlier opened up with her, told her about his desire to sit on Iron Throne with her.

He pledged his support to Sansa to rally the North instead of a Bastard who was born in the South. The actor Aidan Gillen sat with the Vulture and talked about his role, Sansa Stark character arc:

He said “We only had a few scenes with Littlefinger in season six. But one thing he was trying to do consistently was sow some kind of seed of disquiet with Sansa in terms of Jon, and how closely related they really are, and how valid he really is as a king, or a leader, or a brother, while at the same time encouraging what might be her own position. There’s a certain amount of, “I told you so. Is this what you want? Can you trust him?”

Given that he enjoys chaos and uncertainty and the thrill of all of that, it was a big moment for him. He added:

“I don’t think Littlefinger would differentiate between who is highborn and who is not, but it’s a lot harder to rise if you’re not. So there would be a certain respect and admiration, but also wariness about people who made it under difficult circumstance, because if they’ve fought hard for it, they must really want it, and they’re going to fight harder to hold on to it. They’re going to be clever, more ruthless, more adversarial, possibly. Littlefinger has a keen awareness of where people are coming from, and what they want, and what they’ll do to get what they want, and using that awareness for his own benefit while seemingly promoting their cause.”

He began to sow the seeds of distrust between Sansa Stark and Jon Snow. But it didn’t work although he managed to plant an idea of being “Lady of Winterfell” in Sansa’s mind. At this point, he can’t ally with Cersei but once did reach out to her earlier to make him the “Warden of the North” if he takes control of the Winterfell.

In the latest episode, he again outsmarted Arya Stark who fell into his trap and went inside his chambers only to find a note which he wanted her to find.

It goes back to season 1 when Ned Stark was captured, and Cersei Lannister forced Sansa to sign a letter which asks Robb Stark to bend the knee and pledge his loyalty to King Joffrey who is keeping her well. This will likely create a split between the Stark sisters and Little finger will create chaos and climb the ladder.

But the problem with the plan is that he has not covered all his tracks and his sins will catch up with him. A common enemy will unite Sansa and Arya against him which will become a reason for his downfall.

Sansa Stark, the lady of Winterfell, will sentence him to death for playing a role in poisoning Lord Arryn (first Hand of the King), betraying Lord Eddard Stark and conspiring with the Boltons against House Stark. All these details will be revealed by Bran Stark and old records maintained at Winterfell.

Arya Stark now carrying Valyrian dagger that was used by an assassin Catspaw hired by King Joffrey (it was actually Little Finger) to kill Bran Stark after he caught Cersei and Jaime having sex in the tower.

He was saved by his wolf Summers, as a result, Catelyn Stark went to meet Little Finger at King’s Landing and showed him the blade, he told her it belonged to Tyrion Lannister which led to his capture at Vale and triggered the great “War of the Five Kings”.

Some of his famous quotes are as follows:

Little Finger To Sansa Stark

“Always keep your foes confused. If they are never certain who you are or what you want, they cannot know what you are like to do next. Sometimes the best way to baffle them is to make moves that have no purpose, or even seem to work against you. Remember that Sansa, when you come to play the game.”

Little Finger’s Monologue

“Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some, are given a chance to climb. They refuse, they cling to the realm, or the gods, or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.”

Little Finger to Eddard Stark –

“Distrusting me was the wisest thing you have done since you climbed off your horse”.

Little Finger to Lord Varys

“The realm. Do you know what the realm is? It’s the thousand blades of Aegon’s enemies. A story we agreed to tell each other over and over ‘till we forget that it’s a lie’.”

Little Finger to Robin Arryn

“People die at their diner tables. They die in their beds. They die squatting over their chamber pots. Everybody dies sooner or later. And don’t worry about your death. Worry about your life. Take charge of your life for as long as it lasts.”
