Movies are made across different genres like action, drama, sci-fi, horror etc. But there is one genre which is neither action/drama nor horror, it’s sometimes called as “psychological thriller”. It consists of movies that are crafted to mess with your heads and take you on an insane ride, sometimes it pays off while other times it fizzles out in the end.
Here’re 7 movies that you must watch if you are a fan of psychological thrillers:
Inception
It’s a masterpiece written and directed by Christopher Nolan who is now a living legend in the world of entertainment. But this movie is not for the average movie-goer who just want to have a good time, it’s specifically designed for movie buffs who can withstand intricate plots and appreciate complex subjects like lucid dreaming. Watch it twice to get the most out of it.
2001: A Space Odyssey
It’s one of the most debated Stanley Kubrick films whose DNA inspired movies like Star Wars, Aliens, and Moon. It is a space exploration movie that delves with elements of evolution, war, alien life etc.
Triangle
It is about time loops and body duplications. It asks a question to viewers – What will happen if there were multiple you’s? What will you do? Will you attack or co-exist? Don’t take this as a horror movie about a scary boat.
Eraserhead
It’s extremely confusing which almost laughs at audience trying to comprehend. David Lynch has a habit of making such monstrosities with provocative imagery and perplexing plot points. But don’t lose hope, its rewarding in the end.
Memento
Another cult Nolan movie which calls for repeated viewing. Although, it’s not as complex as people think, it’s fairly confusing. Guy Pierce plays a man who has a short-term memory loss and he still wants to find who killed his wife.
Coherence
A group of friends meets over a dinner, discuss how fucked up their lives are and then comet is about to hit the Earth. Wait, there is another house with the same people dining.
Mulholland Drive
It really divides people but I would recommend you watch it. It explores so many themes designed to disorient audience’s reality. I ain’t spoiling it.
