At the end of season 6 of Game of Thrones, we had Daenerys Stormborn begin her invasion of Westeros with the huge armada, the Greyjoys, the unsullied, the Dothraki horde and the three dragons. She made Tyrion Lannister as her “Hand of the Queen”. Lord Varys successfully forged a “Fire & Blood” alliance with House Martell and House Tyrells who are hell-bent on taking revenge against Cersei Lannister who is practicing with no allies. As Jaime said, she is Queen of three kingdoms, not seven in Game of Thrones.
She had her epic revenge on her enemies and guilty as charged I even cheered for her. She burned down the Sept of Baelor using wildfire killing everyone inside the High Sparrow & the entire faith clan and the Tyrells (Lord Mace Tyrell, Margery Tyrell, Loras Tyrell), and as a result, King Tommen committed suicide by jumping out of the window.
During the reign of Mad King, wildfire was buried all across Kings Landing, Qyburn found the whole cache under the Sept and told Cersei that it’s for real (not just a rumor). She executed the most diabolical act which even Mad King failed to pull off as he was stabbed by Jaime Lannister (then Kingsguard). She was anointed as the “Queen of Westeros” after her son Tommen committed suicide by jumping out of the window. The ancient prophecy is now fulfilled which said that she will be alive to see her children die one after the other. She is now “the Mad Queen”.
What is Cersei’s game plan? How long can she sustain it? The Crown is deeply in debt, Tyrells control the grain supplies, she has no allies anywhere and people hate her. It is increasingly clear that Cersei Lannister can’t possibly hold her position for long as Dany’s massive forces are marching towards Westeros. She needs a strategic ally to even put up a valiant fight, let alone win against Daenerys Targaryen.
Fans speculated that there will be an alliance between Cersei Lannister and Euron Greyjoy (brother of Balon Greyjoy) as an enemy of an enemy is a friend.
Recently, BuzzFeed UK did an interview with an entire cast, when actor Pilou Asbaek was asked – Who brightens his day on the sets? He almost revealed that it’s Lena Headey. Well, in the first episode it was made clear that Cersei will ally with Euron Greyjoy as he is the greatest sea captain and now controls 1000 Battle ships which make him strongest in the sea. He has promised Cersei that he will give her a gift she would like (most likely sand-snake as the show is not doing Dragon-binder plot) in exchange for her hand in marriage.
On one hand in Game of Thrones, Lannister armies can raid the critical points of the “fire & blood” alliance. On the other hand, Euron Greyjoy will have his 1000 ships ready, he can overwhelm Dany’s forces with an aggressive sea attack. We know that Euron is a well-trained naval fighter whereas Dothraki dread fighting in the seas. He may do some real damage given the element of surprise. Can’t wait anymore.
