In the Game of Thrones, we had one red priestess Melisandre who worships the Lord of Light, she read the flames and convinced Stannis Baratheon that he is “the Prince who was promised”. She helped him eliminate his brother Renly Baratheon by creating a shadow monster with her mystical abilities, as a result substantial chunk of his army merged into Stannis’s forces, which emboldened him to attack King’s Landing in the Battle of Blackwater. He failed in his attempt to capture the capital, then went North with sell swords, failed again and this time for good.
Meanwhile, at Castle Black Jon Snow was repeatedly stabbed by his own men in a brutal mutiny led by Alliser Thorne, as they had lost faith in his leadership.
He paid the price for being an upright Lord Commander who thought about the greater good of the realm, instead of narrow interests of the Nights’ Watch.
But he was resurrected by Melisandre through her red magic, and she has now submitted herself to the service of Jon Snow as she believes it’s him whom she saw in the flames – the Prince who was promised instead of Stannis Baratheon. There is a strong case that it could actually be him after everything is said and done.
Moreover, the biggest fan theory of all times in Game of Thrones, R+L = J was finally confirmed as Bran completed his vision of Tower of Joy and now knows that Jon Snow is the son of Lyanna Stark and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.
In Song of Ice & Fire books written by George R.R Martin, an event called “Tourney at Harrenhal” arranged by Prince Rhaegar where Kings & Queens of the Seven Kingdoms were invited. He was declared the champion of the just after defeating four knights of the Kingsguard including Ser Barristan Selmy, he chose Lyanna Stark as the new Queen of love and beauty, placing the crown of blue winter roses to her lap.
He kept her at Tower of Joy leaving behind his best man Arthur Dayne to guard it, but Ned Stark and his men reached there, he defeated Arthur Dayne and saw a child of his sisters’ and Rhaegar. But he covered it up and lied to everyone that it was his bastard.
Let’s keep R+L = J aside for a moment, technically speaking a Bastard cannot inherit his father’s property, but if he is born of royal blood, the rules are different. If there is no other heir in the line of succession of the King except the Bastard, then it’s possible to anoint him, for instan, e Gendry Baratheon (an illegitimate child of King Robert) could have become King as Tommen was actually a son of Cersei and Jaime Lannister.
The biggest question now is – How will Jon Snow come to know about his parental lineage? How will he react to it?The biggest question now is – How will Jon Snow come to know about his parental lineage? How will he react to it?
On the other hand in Game of Thrones, we had another red priestess Kinwara who was introduced into the show last season, she met Tyrion Lannister and Varys in the ancient city of Meereen.
There was a difference of opinion between Tyrion and Varys on whether they should invoke religion to placate the city on the brink of civil war or should they maintain distance as it’s too risky and unpredictable.
Lord Varys is close to being an atheist character in the show who is also an advocate of peace and stability in the realm. But for the first time, we saw Lord Varys profusely sweating in a conversation when she said to him “Knowledge has made you powerful, but there is still a lot that you don’t know”. She insisted that according to the ancient prophecy it’s Daenerys Targaryen who is “the Prince who was promised”.
She has a much stronger case now as she commands massive Dothraki forces, dragons and savvy advisors by her side.
In the latest episode of Game of Thrones titled “Stormborn”, Melisandre visited Dragonstone and met Daenerys Targaryen and told her that she must summon Jon Snow who is now “King in the North” as he has a role to play in the fight against the army of the dead.
Dany is not a huge believer of prophecies, but when she said it’s the Prince, not Queen, Missandei told her that the prophecy was written in Old Valyrian which is “gender neutral”. So it could be either of them.
Who is it going to be? Who is right? Melisandre or Kinvara?
