Arrow Season 5 Finale: A Suicide Squad Member Is Coming To Lian Yu
Finally, the wait of Arrow fans is over as Arrow season 5 finale is upon us. The tone of this season reminded us of the first season when the world was much simpler, the story is grounded, flashback scenes are gritty and villains are more relatable. The big villain of season 5 has been Prometheus (D.A. Chase) who isn’t a supernatural creature which in a sense a major “callback” to the first season where Malcolm Merlyn was the big villain attempting to wipe out the entire area called “Glades” off the map of Starling city through a sinister “Undertaking”. The new season deliberately distanced itself from the supernatural elements and proudly embraced its own roots.
Chase has kidnapped the entire Arrow team and took them to where it all started Lian Yu. He has the full support of Talia Al Ghul, elder daughter of Ra’s Al Ghul (former head of the demon, now deceased). He helped Black Canary escape the meta-human prison to join him.
On the other hand, Oliver Queen/Green Arrow declared an all-out war against Prometheus but he ain’t alone in this fight. He has Malcolm Merlyn/Dark Archer behind him who will do anything to rescue his daughter Thea. He contacted Nysa Al Ghul (younger daughter of Ra’s) to aid him in his efforts to take down Talia. He went to the supermax prison where Slade Wilson is locked and released him on the condition that he will join forces to end Chase. Well, if that wasn’t enough, it’s confirmed that Captain Boomerang a.k.a Digger Harkness is going to make an appearance. He was part of A.R.G.U.S Suicide Squad on the show and was taken down by Arrow.
It’s possible that he may side with Prometheus to have his revenge against Arrow which could make things difficult for Oliver & co. But it seems that he will bury his differences and help Team Oliver after all.
The format of Arrow has been a back and forth between Oliver’s haunting past and tense present, he has been living a double life since he came back after five years in hell. Each season showed one year of his life on the island, which means the fifth or current season will actually show how he actually escaped. This will bring the show to full circle to the very first episode when he was rescued.
The executive producer of the show Wendy Mericle hinted at the death of major characters, he said:
“Chase has been trying to prove to the world and to Oliver that he’s not a hero, he’s a killer, and he’s going to pull out one final, big whamo at the end that’s going to leave Oliver reeling. We might lose some people.”
