Wolverine, unlike other superheroes, has been lucky to have one actor dedicated to playing him in films for over two decades. Sadly, Hugh Jackman has decided to leave his famous role for other opportunities. And since superhero movies are always in demand, superheroes never lose their appeal, even if the actors that play them do. We’re not saying that Hugh Jackman has lost his appeal, but it’s more than likely that Wolverine will have a new actor portraying the character sooner than later.
Since the character of Wolverine has enjoyed a far-reaching popularity with fans, Fox may just recast the another actor as they did with other X-Men characters. The X-Men: Days Of Future Past had seen a recast of popular character Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and other X-Men characters. With X-Men: Supernova being the next film for the team, there is a definite chance that a new actor could take on the role that made Hugh Jackman a superstar.
Even Jackman is not blind to the possibility. The actor discussed the possibility of another actor taking on the role of Wolverine in future films in his interview with New York Times.
“The character will go on. Someone else will play it, for sure. [He insisted he was at peace with that] unless Daniel Day-Lewis plays him and wins the Oscar — then I might have a little problem.”
This is not the first time that Jackman has talked about the possibility. In a 2015 interview, the actor had suggested actor Tom Hardy for the titular role. This possibility had many fans champion Hardy for the role. He does fit the description of the cigar smoking mutant with an attitude to a tee. Hardy had previously played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, so he certainly has the credentials to pull off another stint as a superhero. But hopefully, Fox would give fans a bit of time to get over their beloved Jackman’s leave.
