Would The Hulk Beat Fantastic Four’s The Thing In A Fight?
Marvel has many superheroes that are super for different reasons. Some have super strength, mind-reading powers, mind-bending powers, mutation based powers, and super strength…you get the picture. But some heroes will always be compared to one another, especially for battles or fights. Fans have their favorites for a reason. One “fictional” fight which has got fans choosing sides is the one for decades: Who would win in a fight between The Hulk and The Thing?
The only answer that seems valid for this answer has to be from the creator of the characters, Stan Lee. The writer, while in conversation with The Tomorrow Show was asked this particular quandary. His answer was both validation and not surprising:
“ Oh, The Hulk would win. The Thing is faster and smarter, so he would probably find a way to turn it into a draw or save himself. He’d trap or trick him. But, in a fair fight, there’s no way the Hulk [would lose]. He’d win.”
Lee has worked on three comic book issues that depict The Hulk and The Thing having quarrels, and those fights end with The Hulk being the victor. So Lee seems to have chosen his side on this fight. This may be for good reason if you look at the characteristics that both heroes possess. Ben Grimm has an advantage to The Hulk, as the character still retains an iota of his intellect when he transforms into The Thing. The Hulk, however, has the brutal strength that keeps growing when he gets angrier. And the guy has a short fuse, to say the least. And in fights, what actually does work for the fighters? Brains or Brawn?
Lee’s answer may not be some fans cup of tea, but that does not mean that it’s the end all answer. Since every writer has his own interpretation of what a character might bring into every situation. Do you agree that The Hulk would win?
