Tom Hardy To Collaborate With DC On New TV Series

Actor Tom Hardy is a big fan of comic books. The actor famously played Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. He was also set to star in this year’s Suicide Squad but had to drop out due to shooting conflicts. Of course, he got a Best Supporting Actor nomination out of that dropout, so no hard feelings there for the actor in the end. That was not the end of his relationship with the world of comics.Hardy will produce the Warren Ellis and Jason Howard’s Trees that has been optioned for television by NBCUniversal International Studios. Warren Ellis has been associated in the past with DC comics. Tom Hardy will produce under his production company production company ‘Hardy Son & Baker’.

Hardy did an interview with Collider where he discussed his new collaboration with Ellis and Howard’s Trees :

“It contains elements of all kinds of stuff. From Ocean’s Eleven, to Batman, you can get all the wrappers out and it would be a big, really cool, technicolor Pulp Fiction. It’s a psychological fuckfest, it’s absolutely awesome. It’s as if you would take [the Warren Ellis co-created comic book series] Transmetropolitan and make it happen, but it’s not that out there. It’s something which is much more real world. It could be like Heat, it could be fucking awesome.”

With the actor’s reference of Transmetropolitan-a cyberpunk, transhumanism comic book about a gonzo journalist and the movie Heat- the sci-fi space thriller- has already got us excited for the new series. The enthusiastic actor speaks further on this new series :

“It’s real estate, it’s PRIME real estate which is sitting there right under everybody’s nose that no one’s really thought about yet, and it goes TV and movie, it’s awesome. I know they thought of it, but no one has actually blown life into it yet.”
