Marvel Studios and Sony are set to launch a new Spiderman franchise, with the popular actor Tom Holland cast as Peter Parker/Spiderman, who was taken in by Tony Stark/Iron Man to fight for his team in Captain America Civil War. The arrangement between the two studios is unique – Marvel pushes the creative leads while Sony decides to permit or reject it.
The studios have finalized on the “Spiderman Homecoming” storyline and Vulture as the big villain. Michael Keaton (Birdman, Spotlight) is going to portray Vulture onscreen. He will be wearing a suit which gives him the ability to fly at increased strength, built from the remains of Chitauri (a race of extra-terrestrial shape-shifters) technology from the battle of New York. He will also employ the help of a man called Tinkerer who will actually make the advanced flight suit based on superior alien technology. He will be played by Logan Marshall- Green (24 TV Series, The O.C.) Further, the additions to the cast include Donald Glover as Peter Parker’s friend, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr. a.k.a Tony Stark who will be a mentor to Peter Parker who is a high-school student still learning to understand what it means to be a superhero.
There is a speculation that Black Widow/Natasha Romanov is being seen on the sets of Spiderman: Homecoming, her fans termed them rumors as she is busy shooting for Ghost in the Shell and has no reason to be there. But if we see the Marvel-Sony deal, they agreed to use up to two Avengers in a single Spiderman film. We know Iron Man is there, Could she be the second one? In a recent poll done by an entertainment agency Fandango at the behest of USA Today, it was revealed that Marvel fans (who have bought tickets for civil war movie) overwhelmingly are in favor of an independent Black widow solo movie (48%), way ahead of Vision (15%), Falcon (12%), Hawkeye (10%), War Machine (8%) and Scarlett witch (7%). If indeed she is part of the movie, it would be a masterstroke by Marvel.
The movie is expected to hit theatres on July 7, 2017. The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car).
