3 Failed Movies That Actually Had Potential

If a movie is good, it becomes successful in the box-office and if it’s bad, it becomes unsuccessful. Well, this is an old myth as there are other things beyond good and bad that decides the fate of a movie. We have seen numerous times that movies that are actually good fail at the box-office and movies that are actually bad become successful at the box-office. There is another set of movies ruined by bad execution that actually has potential.  These movies had great ideas and concept but failed to reach the audience due to lack of proper execution. Let’s have a look at 3 failed movies that actually had potential.

The Last Airbender

1

The Last Airbender is written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and was released in the year 2010. The star cast of the movie includes Noah Ringer, Dev Patel, Nicola Peltz, and Jackson Rathbone. The movie is based on an animated TV series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series was loved by everyone and critically acclaimed as it had really interesting characters and strong and engaging storyline. Everyone expected the film to be as good as the TV series, but the exact opposite happened. The first mistake M. Night Shyamalan did was that he squeezed a full season TV series into a 1 hour 40 minutes box-structure. The second mistake was the incomplete characterization which spoiled the original concept and it irritated both the critics and normal viewers.

Hancock

Hancock is directed by Peter Berg and was released in the year 2008. The star cast of the movie includes Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman, and Eddie Marsan. Will Smith is an actor who can handle almost all types of roles with perfection and when he was about to play a superhero, fans were super excited. The movie starts off well but when you are halfway through the movie, you could see the movie deviating from its basic plot and humor to an unwanted and boring love triangle subplot. The superhero action sequences and good CGIs couldn’t save the movie from becoming a total mess up. Hancock is truly a wasted opportunity.

Transcendence

3

Transcendence is directed by Wally Pfister and was released in the year 2014. The star cast of the movie includes Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, and Cillian Murphy. The movie is the directorial debut of cinematographer Wally Pfister, who did the cinematography for movies like Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception etc. He is inarguably one of the best cinematographers we have today, but a great cinematographer can’t easily become a good director. The movie puts forwards a lot of questions related to Artificial Intelligence and futuristic computer science, but none of the answers presented in the movie were satisfactory. The movie had all the potential of becoming a good science fiction movie, but the boring storyline and the shabby direction killed the movie. The lovable and familiar faces in the movie and their performances couldn’t save the movie from becoming a brain teaser.

Joyal Jose

Joyal is an ardent movie lover and he tries to watch all the movies at the very first day of its release and even the very first show. He loves to remain simple always just like his inspirational hero Ajith Kumar (Actor). His love for Paul Walker is never ending and he misses him like anything. He loves his sister more than anything else in this world. One of his most favorite hobbies is to review movies, but he never rates them. According to his concept, he is no one to rate someone else’s work. The ultimate aim of his life is to become a script writer in the Malayalam film industry.
