The upcoming Benedict Cumberbatch starrer Dr. Strange movie has generated a lot of buzz among comic-book fans. The first impression you will get from the trailers is “Is this a sci-fi or a super-hero movie”. It contains beautiful shots of high-rises, magnificent fortresses, halls, courtyards etc.
It’s an origin story of a world famous surgeon turned master sorcerer whose life changed when he found the ancient one after he crippled his hands in an accident. Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange (created by Ditco and Lee in 1963) is searching for meaning in his life, exploring different possibilities that could determine his fate. He spent years trying to find a miracle treatment that would fix his predicament, eventually wound up at Tibet. Consequently, he shunned conventional medicine and embraced sorcery and mysticism, joined the order.
Marvel studios have released an epic concept art of Dr. Strange as the fully realized Sorcerer’s Supreme, ahead of the San Diego ComicCon, 2016. This confirms that we don’t have to wait for the sequel to see how powerful Dr. Strange can be if he learns magic and sorcery. Benedict Cumberbatch said that the difference between Sherlock and Dr. Strange is that the latter used to be more arrogant but somehow mysticism grounded him.
It’s confirmed that Mads Mikkelson is playing the antagonist in the movie, it’s still a mystery as to who will he be portraying. The Marvel toy collection has revealed that the name of his character is Kaecillius who taps energy from another dimension. He clarified in an interview “He’s not a villain in that way – he’s a man who believes in something else than the hero. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to make the planet look wonderful or he wants to save the world as well, but he has a different way of doing it. He is the antagonist, of course, but he’s not necessarily wrong.”
The movie is set to release on November 4, 2016.
