Are We Ever Going to See Black Widow Solo Movie?

The last stand-alone female superhero movie I watched was perhaps Cat-Woman starring Halle Berry, and it may be in my top 10 most dreadful movies of all time. It’s been a long time that we have seen a female superhero character brought alive on screen, such projects are always considered to be “risky” by the studios.

Are We Ever Going to See Black Widow Solo Movie?

But DC has officially greenlit Wonder woman independent movie starring Gal Gadot who portrayed the same character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It has excited a section of DC fans, particularly women comic nerds (if there are any :/). Now Marvel fans are asking for a Black Widow movie, in fact, Scarlett Johansson has expressed his willingness to be part of a standalone movie based on the character of the Black widow, which she has portrayed multiple times in Marvel super-hero movies.

The studio was ready to launch an original Netflix series based on the character of Hawkeye at some point, the Black widow is a far viable choice to invest money and resources. In a recent poll done by an entertainment agency Fandango at the behest of USA Today, it was revealed that Marvel fans (who have bought tickets for civil war movie) overwhelmingly are in favor of an independent Black widow solo movie (48%), way ahead of Vision (15%), Falcon (12%), Hawkeye (10%), War Machine (8%) and Scarlett witch (7%). But, the studio has indicated a minuscule possibility of a Black widow, instead, they are planning an independent “Wasp” movie based on the character of Hope van dyne played by Evangeline Lilly. There are already 9 superhero movies in the pipeline of Marvel studios until phase 3 is over, and phase 4 shall begin from 2020. Well,…it doesn’t seem like Marvel studios are listening to its fans on this occasion.
