Christopher Nolan movies are always a pleasure to watch. It hooks the audience to their seats until the movie gets finished. His vision and perception are far beyond a normal human being’s imagination. His movies leave us confused and make us think about it again and again. All his movies are unique and they offer something great. So it’s really hard to choose the best among his movies. I have shortlisted 5 Christopher Nolan movies which I personally think are his best.
Memento
Memento was released in the year 2000. The movie was based on a short story (Memento Mori) written by his brother Jonathan Nolan. Impressive screenplay and nonlinear narration were the main highlights of the movie. Guy Pearce played the lead role and his performance was widely appreciated both by the audience and critics. The film has won numerous awards in different categories.
Inception
Inception was released in the year 2010 and many consider it to be one of the most confusing films ever made. Nolan got the basic idea of this film from lucid dreaming, a scientifically proven phenomenon in which the dreamer is completely aware of the dream and he/she could even control it. The movie has a huge star cast like Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy and much more. Most of the people still have questions related to the climax of the movie and it has been widely discussed over the social medias even now.
Interstellar
Interstellar was released in the year 2014 and got so much hype and expectations from the time of the film’s announcement. Set in a future time (unspecified) on Earth, the entire human race is struggling for food and a team plans an Interstellar travel to a possible inhabitant land which is again futuristic. The emotional contents in the movie worked big time especially the scene where Mathew McConaughey watches the video messages from his son was extremely heart touching. The extended cameo by Matt Damon was another thing which I liked a lot.
The Dark Knight
Released in the year 2008, The Dark Knight is a sequel to Nolan’s Batman Begins which was released in the year 2005. “The Joker” character played by Heath Ledger is definitely one of the best or “the best” villain ever in the history of world cinema. Heath Ledger never had the luck to see his magical performance on the big screen as he met his end long ago before the film’s release. The soundtracks composed by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard were also kickass.
Following
Released in the year 1998, Following was the first feature film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The cinematography department was also handled by him. This neo-noir (black and white) film marked the beginning of a visionary director. Top notch scripting and the unique flashback structure made the movie extremely catchy. Of all the Nolan movies released so far, I personally prefer to consider Following as his best work.
