Will Marvel Studios Break New Ground with Doctor Strange Movie?

The new teaser trailer for Benedict Cumberbatch starrer Doctor Strange movie has been released by the Marvel Studios. The first impression you will get from the trailer be “Is this a sci-fi or a super-hero movie”. It contains beautiful shots of high-rises upside down, felt almost like the sequel to Christopher Nolan’s Inception. But then you see Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange (created by Ditco and Lee in 1963) searching for meaning in his life, exploring different possibilities that could determine his fate.

It’s an origin story of a world famous surgeon turned master sorcerer whose life changed when he found the ancient one after he crippled his hands in an accident. He spent years trying to find a miracle treatment that would fix his predicament, eventually wound up at Tibet. Consequently, he shunned conventional medicine and embraced sorcery and mysticism.

It’s almost confirmed that Mads Mikkelson will be playing the big villain in the movie, it’s still a mystery as to who will he be portraying. There is a possibility that he may be Dormammu who is one of the most powerful beings in Marvel universe like the mad Titan (Thanos) himself.

Details About Doctor Strange

The ability of Marvel studios to think “out-of-the-box” ideas and bringing them alive on big screen is what sets them leagues apart from DC Entertainment which seems to think that merely referencing Justice league members through an e-mail will somehow bring DC superheroes together to fight a larger enemy. It will be interesting to see how Dr. Strange gets introduced to Avengers Initiative and will Civil war events have an impact on him. We know that Dr. Strange possess a mind gem, I guess we will wait and see how creatively Marvel will connect the dots.
