“A Year of Biopic” 7 Films of 2016 to Justify the Sentence

 

After the success of Mary Kom and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, bollywood has its sight set on biopics. And with the movies lined for release this year, it can be said that this is the year of real life stories. From big Khans of bollywood to new superstars everyone is part of the league. Here is the list of the awaited biopics to prove their merit.

 

Dhoni: The Untold Story

The news of the movie was circulated early 2015. Soon the news became viral and huge craze generated. The movie stars Sushant Singh Rajput as Captain cool and the head coach of the team is Neeraj Pandey. There are various other superstars portraying other characters. One can say a lot of controversies will be answered and a few might generate. No matter what, this movie has the potential to become one of the best films of this year.

DANGAL

The year ends with an Aamir Khan release. Though the movie is still under production but the release date is confirmed so one can safely say that Dangal will fight at the box-office this year. The film is based on Mahavir Singh Phogat, who taught wrestling to his daughters. The film is directed by Nitish Tiwari, who previously directed Bhootnath returns and Kill Dill. With the deadly combination of Aamir Khan and Christmas, it is safe to assume that Dangal will be a winner.

AZHAR

One of the most controversial men in the cricket history, Mohammad Azharuddin. From match-fixing to multiple affairs, he has played all the games in style. And this year his entire life will be shown on the celluloid. Emraan Hashmi stars in the lead alongside various prominent actors of the industry. The movie is directed by Tony D’Souza and produced by Ektaa Kapoor. Azhar is slated to take guards in the month of May.

SARABJIT

Omung Kumar, the director of Mary Kom is all set to release his next biopic. The film is based on Sarabjit Singh, who was tried and convicted by the supreme court of Pakistan for a series of bomb attack. Randeep Hooda will be seen in the role of Sarabjit. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will play the role of Sarabjit’s sister. The real life story of Sarabjit is heart-touching and interesting. His case got a worldwide recognition and a lot of hard work was done for releasing him. It will be interesting to see how the story is crafted in movies.

ALIGARH

The movie is based on real life events of Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who was suspended from his job due to sexual orientation. He was later found dead under suspicious condition. The movie stars Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkumar Rao in the main roles, and is directed by Hansal Mehta. Aligarh received a standing ovation on its world premiere. It is releasing in India on the last week of February. Hope it wins the Indian audiences hearts also.

REBELLIOUS FLOWER

The film on the life of Guru Osho Rajneesh and his spiritual journey to enlightenment is the first biopic of the year. It is slated to release on 15th January and has already won many awards. The movie has no major star except for Mukesh Bhatt in a small cameo. It might not create a buzz at the box office, but a release is a release. Therefore it has to be in the list.

NEERJA

Neerja starring Sonam Kapoor and Shabana Azmi is this year’s second biopic. It is supposed to release on 19th The film revolves around the factual hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 flight in Karachi, specifically focusing on flight attendant Neerja Bhanot. Neerja Bhanot fought for the lives of her passenger. The film is directed by renowned AD Filmmaker Ram Madhvani. And with this it makes seven biopics for the year 2016. Precisely a year of biopics.
