Bollywood has been generous with all kinds of festivals. Let it be through song sequences or scenes bollywood never fails to celebrate the essence of festivals. In this grand occasion of durga puja festival here is a list of three bollywood movies which depicted the festival nicely.
This epic Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie was based on a Bengali novel written by Sarat Chandra chattapadhyay. Though in the original novel the two ladies “ Paro” and “ Chandramukhi” never met but Bhansali made his two leading ladies meet. In the movie both Aishwarya and Madhuri Dixit danced on the occasion of Durga Puja, with Srk intensely observing them. The sequence was a treat to the eyes.
No other Bollywood film in recent times has incorporated Durga Puja the way “ Kahaani “ did. Vidya Balan went around looking for her missing husband and in the background Kolkata readied itself for the grand festival. Even the climax was shot on the last day of the festival where Vidya killed the Villain which was quite symbolic.
Pradeep Sarkar’s debut film starring an ensemble cast of Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Diya Mirza was set in the 1960s Kolkata. The story was based on Sarat Chandra Chattapadhyay’s novel and it did have Durga Puja. In the very first scene we see Sekhar the main character portrayed by Saif Ali Khan performing the “ Dhunuchi” Dance which is a tradition and Lolita the female protagonist portrayed by Vidya Balan picks up the burnt Coconut shell from the ground. There are many such instances in the film.
