X-Men References- New Mutants Might Be In MCU

X-Men References- New Mutants Might Be In MCU:

The status of Fox’s New Mutants movie still isn’t clear. It was supposed to come out back in April 2018. Some people were actually intrigued after seeing the original trailer of the film as it came out as a horror-esk film set in the Superhero genre. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be the first horror superhero film, but The New Mutants could have actually been that. Take a look at the trailer if you missed it or perhaps forgot about it:

This film was shot back in 2017, and all that footage is now lingering with Disney. It was delayed because a large part of the movie had to be reshot. The film has been delayed thrice. After its original April release, the film was scheduled for February 2019. Then, Dark Phoenix was pushed to February and New Mutants was pushed to August. Dark Phoenix further got pushed to June. We’re currently in September and there’s still no sign of The New Mutants.

If you think about it, Disney wouldn’t logically trust any Marvel property that Fox had developed. Dark Phoenix produced huge losses for them. It was an even bigger bomb than the 2015 Fantastic Four movie which killed Josh Trank’s career. So, Disney may actually not release The New Mutants at all. It may come as a prize package on Hulu to gain more subscribers. Recent updates suggested that Disney held a test screening for the latest version of the film and the audience actually liked what they saw. But that still doesn’t guarantee a theatrical release for the next year, which by the way has been reported to be in April 2020.

Now, a new report coming from FandomWire suggests that the latest cut of The New Mutants has actually removed any and all references to Fox’s X-Men storyline. It is something that is out of the X-Men-Deadpool shared Universe now. So, it may actually be released by Marvel as an MCU film. This obviously means that the characters in the New Mutants movie may actually return in future MCU films. Moreover, this is probably where the notion of mutants will come into play.

Is this why Disney had been making Fox wait for so long? All this talk coming from Feige about waiting on the Mutant introduction in the MCU, and all of a sudden Marvel drops this bomb bringing the mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It actually makes you a little optimistic if you look at this new report this way.

But then again, it is New Mutants we’re talking about. At least WB’s Flash movie suffered multiple delays before it begun production. But The New Mutants, on the other hand, has suffered multiple delays after it finishes its original principal photography. It might have been so cool if Fox would have released The New Mutants on its original scheduled release date. That way we as an audience would have got some different & unique content on the silver screen, and Disney wouldn’t have had to worry about the major losses they’re going to suffer if this film is actually as bad.

Just a little while back, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner said that she wants a theatrical release for what the people involved did upon the project. She said:

“They worked hard on it. I want to see it released (theatrically), I’d hate to see it thrown at Hulu.”

Can you imagine that there were hopes for this project to become a trilogy? Director Josh Boone talked about the possibility of a trilogy as he said:

“We brought it to Fox as a trilogy of films, really all based on that long run by [Bill] Sienkiewicz, and kind of incorporates some stuff from later issues in the ’80s.

These are all going to be horror movies, and they’re all be their own distinct kind of horror movies. This is certainly the ‘rubber-reality’ supernatural horror movie. The next one will be a completely different kind of horror movie. Our take was just go examine the horror genre through comic book movies and make each one its own distinct sort of horror film. Drawing from the big events that we love in the comics.”

Well, it sure won’t be a trilogy unless Marvel releases it as its own property. So, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
