Tom Holland, the Spider-Man of the Marvel world has explained time and time again how much of a fan he is of the superhero. And it seems like that great admiration goes back to childhood. Why else would he declare that Spider-Man could beat Batman in a fight?
Comic book and movie fans have often debated the merits to why a certain character was more powerful in a fight than the other. It could be their strength, their super powers like speed, agility or their intellectual capability. Every fan has their favorite who they would swear by to be undefeated in a fight. It seems like Holland may just be the most hardcore fan of Spider-Man.
The actor explained why he came to such a staunch conclusion during his interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
“Spider-Man, and I’m not saying that now because I am Spider-Man. It’s been Spider-Man since I was a little kid. My best friend Harrison, his favorite is Batman, and for years we’ve had an argument on who would win in a fight, Spider-Man or Batman. I win every argument now. I’m like “You know how I know? Because I am Spider-Man, so…shut your face.””
Tom Holland hilarious answer may not be the reason you’d been hoping for, but it reflected the level of devotion the actor has for the hero. Who else could reason why we like what we like when we are children? Holland’s enthusiasm for the character may also be the much-needed refresher for the superhero. Homecoming has been said to be a younger take on the Spider-Man role, with the actors being age appropriate to their comic book counterparts.
“You’ve seen the billionaire, the scientist, the soldier. Now it’s time to see the kid. And every decision we make on set is based off how would a kid react in this situation, so every fight scene we have is designed in a way that’s almost child-friendly, so he never actually punches anyone. It’s all done kind of by accident. I think the biggest difference is his youth and innocence.”
