Sherlock Holmes Producer Provides Update on Third RDJ Movie

Robert Downey Jr. first played Sherlock Holmes in the 2009 adaptation of the iconic detective, which was a success with critics and at the box office. After playing Tony Stark in the MCU, people are wondering if we’ll ever get a third Sherlock Holmes film with Downey Jr. as the lead, and it seems like it’s definitely a priority for the actor, according to Sherlock Holmes producer Susan Downey.

In an interview with the UnWrapped podcast, Susan Downey said, “We’re gonna do it when it’s right with the right people but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert.” The third entry into the film has been in the works for years, but the development of the project was delayed by the pandemic. The first two films were directed by Guy Ritchie, but Dexter Fletcher was enlisted to helm the third entry. Fletcher revealed that the pandemic derailed the project, but he believes it has to be made. “It’s fantastic. I think it’s about all the right people being at the right place, at the right time. I think it’s that,” Fletcher said.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the third Sherlock Holmes film, which could build even more excitement after Downey’s time in the MCU has come to an end. In fact, audiences are disappointed that Downey’s time in the MCU has concluded. But a third Sherlock Holmes film could offer a new adventure with the iconic detective. The project has been in development for years, with one point having a 2020 release date. However, the pandemic caused the development of the project to stagnate, leading to further delays. But despite the setbacks, it seems like everyone involved is determined to make it happen.

Although there’s no official release date yet, it’s safe to say that fans are excited to see Downey Jr. return as Sherlock Holmes. The first two films were a hit with audiences and critics alike, and it’s clear that the team behind the project is committed to making a third film happen. It’s also worth noting that Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Sherlock Holmes was a departure from the traditional take on the character, with the film offering a more action-packed, comedic approach.

This fresh take on the character was well-received by audiences, and it will be interesting to see where the third film takes us. Overall, it seems like the third Sherlock Holmes film is definitely happening, with everyone involved committed to making it a reality.
