Marvel Reveals Alternate Shang-Chi Post-Credits Scene (Images)

Hey, did you hear about the new Marvel Studios art book that reveals an alternate Shang-Chi post-credits scene? Yeah, it’s pretty cool! As you know, Shang-Chi had two awesome post-credits scenes that set up the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the martial arts franchise. One showed Shang-Chi’s sister Xialing taking over the Ten Rings from her dad, Wenwu, while the other had a much more intriguing and game-changing connection to the MCU.

The second scene showed Shang-Chi and his bestie Katy meeting up with Wong, with Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner joining in via hologram, at the Sanctum Sanctorum. They were all discussing a signal of unknown origin that came from the Ten Rings, which could potentially set up a major plot point for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

The new Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings: The Art Of The Movie book recently came out and it includes some unique takes on the post-credits scene. These alternate designs featured the titular hero with Katy, Wong, Captain Marvel, and Bruce Banner to discuss a mysterious signal coming from the Ten Rings.

One of the concepts for the scene was set in a nightclub-like location with a lot of colors. Another design had a lot of shapes and an enlarged Ten Rings, which looked pretty cool too. Another design took place in a much larger room with a bigger hologram projection than what we saw in the final cut.

One of the designs appeared to take a more ancient and golden influence, almost like something that could have been featured in Moon Knight’s Egypt. The final concept looked very similar to what we saw in the actual movie, with Wong casting some colorful magic.

Each of these concepts for Shang-Chi’s post-credits scene offers a distinctly different visual style. Some of these grand and colorful looks would have been exciting to see on screen, but the final decision of the Sanctum library is more in keeping with the styles and color schemes associated with the MCU’s magic.

In most of these alternate designs, Shang-Chi, Wong, and Katy all appear, but two people that were absent are the cameoing Avengers. This may have been because they weren’t sure which of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes might appear in the council, so they went with holograms instead. The Shang-Chi and Avengers 5 director, Destin Daniel Cretton, previously discussed the post-credits scene, noting how it went “through so many tweaks and updates” based on other MCU events taking place at the time. The story was “dependent on what those characters are doing” in other projects, so it was challenging to nail down.

Cretton revealed that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was an early choice for the Sanctum Sanctorum council, but they weren’t sure if it would make sense for her to be there. Cretton said:

“We talked about it being Brie, but we did not know that it could make plausible sense that Brie could be there. I mean, it obviously helps that we ended up landing on hologram versions of these characters so they can just step away and get back into whatever crazy stuff they’re dealing with. And I’m not even totally aware of what they’re dealing with. All I know is I pitch ideas, and the only time that ideas get kicked back is if it doesn’t make logical sense to other ideas that are percolating for those characters.”

So, if you’re a Marvel fan, you should definitely check out the new art book and see these alternate Shang-Chi post-credits scene.
