Is Steve Rogers Dead? Anthony Mackie Responds

Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently answered about is Steve Rogers dead, as he claimed that the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, is still alive. Despite Steve’s advanced age, Mackie insisted that the character is “hale and hearty” because his death isn’t shown on-screen in Avengers: Endgame or subsequent MCU projects. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mackie jokingly berated host Jimmy Kimmel for assuming that Rogers was dead, calling it “age discrimination.” He also revealed that he saw Chris Evans, who played Steve Rogers, two weeks ago and that Evans looked “pretty good.”

Mackie’s refusal to accept that Steve Rogers is gone aligns with his desire to act opposite Chris Evans in a future MCU production. Mackie said he “hoped” Evans would reprise the Rogers role, especially since his co-stars Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell are set to appear in the upcoming MCU film Thunderbolts without him. “Chris is my boy, we all love and enjoy Chris. I’m highly upset that they put Sebastian in a movie with Wyatt and left me out, so it’s a whole lot going on. So, Sebastian gets Wyatt, I should get Chris,” he said.

Evans has previously downplayed the possibility of returning to the MCU, citing the risk of ruining Steve Rogers’ character arc in Endgame. Evans has also expressed reluctance to potentially undermine Mackie’s adoption of the Captain America mantle. Nevertheless, he recently admitted to missing the role and described his time in the MCU as a positive experience. Despite Evans’ absence, the Captain America franchise is moving forward with Mackie taking up the mantle of Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series. The fourth installment of the franchise, titled Captain America: New World Order, is set to release on May 3, 2024.

Mackie hinted that the film will replace Evans with a new member of the trio, stating that “Chris is going out to pasture. He’s an old man now.” He declined to reveal the identity of Sam Wilson’s new teammate, but Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres/Falcon is considered the frontrunner for the position. In conclusion, Anthony Mackie’s recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live saw him confirm that Steve Rogers is still alive in the MCU. Mackie’s refusal to accept that Rogers is gone aligns with his desire to work with Chris Evans again. Despite Evans’ reluctance to return to the MCU, Mackie is eager for him to reprise the Rogers role. The fourth installment of the Captain America franchise, New World Order, is set to release in 2024, with Mackie taking up the mantle of Captain America and a new member of the trio joining him and Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier.
