Avengers: Endgame Directors Reveal Why Hulk’s Arc Was So Bad In It

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo became legends for their actions with the 4 MCU movies they directed. They just knew how to juggle so many characters at once. But sadly, they weren’t able to do justice to Hulk. Instead of the strongest Avenger, Hulk just turned out to be the Puny Avenger. And now we know why Hulk’s arc was so bad in Avengers: Endgame.

The Russos have recently been promoting their latest Netflix movie, The Gray Man. So, they’ve been a part of a bunch of interviews. As part of the WIRED autocomplete interview series, they were asked a few questions by the fans. And one of them was about why Hulk was turned from the strongest Avenger into a puny Avenger. And guess what, the Russos admitted that they screwed up with Smart Hulk.

Joe Russo said:

“We just didn’t know what to do with him. We were like, ’What, this big powerful character. What we do with this big powerful character?’”

Well, it certainly seemed like that. Hulk was in the movie only to snap his fingers. He was nerfed down massively with that one damaged arm. And it was really sad that he didn’t get any scenes in the final battle beside the one. I mean, this is Hulk we’re talking about. Just use him, God Dammit! Let him smash a few soldiers of Thanos’ army. Give us a Hulk vs. Thanos round 2.

Why Hulk’s Arc Was So Bad

This underuse of Hulk is one of the main reasons why the final battle of Avengers: Endgame should have been at least 5 minutes longer. Certain important MCU characters could have got a couple of more great scenes. After all, a whole lot was conceptualized and even shot. But most of the footage ended up on the editing room floors.
