Why Fast and Furious Uses Corona Beer So Much

The Fast And The Furious has always been a peculiar franchise. It started off as a franchise about a cop who did not want to be a cop. We mean that he decided to side with the criminals he was investigating at the end of the first movie as a sign of respect for Dominic’s ideals. You see, Dom always protects his family, no matter what and that is what he tried to do with Paul Walker. Moreover, the “family” narrative of The Fast And The Furious has now found a life of its own in the fandom and the mass media. But do you know why Fast And Furious uses Corona beer so much?

Surprisingly, this beer is also part of character development for the main cast. You read that right! I would not blame you for thinking that Corona pays for product placement in Fast And Furious. But the truth is that the beer company has no marketing deal with the franchise. The reason for that is that the filmmakers have been subtly using the beer to represent themes of home and family for the main cast. Don’t believe us? Well, let me explain the whole situation to you, in a nutshell, the best I can then you can make a decision as to whether what I say makes sense to you or not.

Fast And Furious Uses Corona Beer

The iconic beer is first seen in the first movie of the franchise and quickly becomes the staple beer of the main cast. Because the main cast is in their home and they feel safe, they can continue to indulge in the beer. But then the beer disappeared from the franchise for the next two installments. Both Too Fast Too Furious, and  The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift were movies that were more like spin-off stories for the franchise. Hence, understandably they do not feature the beer.

The next movie to not feature the beer was Fast Five. We propose that the reason for that is that the main cast was on the run in Fast Five and they had no place to go. So it would make sense that they did not show the beer in this movie. Again, The Fate of The Furious also did not have the beer because it was the first movie to not have Paul Walker, and hence the absence of the beer was symbolic. It represented the fractured nature of the family without Paul Walker.

Fast and Furious uses Corona beer

We remember the great actor every day and we think the main cast does too and that is why they pay their respects o him by doing these small gestures. But who would’ve thought that there was actually a reason other than money why Fast And Furious uses Corona beer in their franchise. It is a very subtle character association/ development that they sought to pull off with the beer in the franchise and one can argue it is too subtle since it took us this long to figure it out.

The Truth

I mean, don’t get us wrong but Fast And Furious is an old franchise. The first movie in the franchise came out in 2001 and we have been given details about the world and the franchise regularly since then. Hence, it is quite surprising that no one notice the Corona connection up until now. Moreover, it is amazing that the filmmakers even decided to not include beer in certain movies because of the reasons we have listed above.

All of this is to say that Fast and Furious uses Corona beer to represent the family sentiment and imply that the cast is relatively safe at the moment. It is a clever play and one that will give them returns until the end of the franchise.
