Who Showed Up at the End? Doctor Strange 2 Post-Credits Scene Explained

The Marvel Cinematic Universe just exploded with the release of Multiverse of Madness. We got a chance to catch the movie earlier today and we cannot stop ourselves from talking about it. But before we do, let me just say that this post will be riddled with Spoilers for the movie. So if you haven’t seen the movie, I suggest that you stop reading. If you have seen the movie then let us begin our discussion. So let’s have the Doctor Strange 2 post-credits scene explained in proper detail. There is even a crazy cameo by a character that no one expected. This movie was chock full of easter eggs, it is a multiverse movie after all.

Doctor Strange 2 is not a pop song with a bridge and a chorus. It is a heavy metal riff that never stops attacking your senses. True to his word, Sam Raimi created a Marvel horror movie, but the pace of this movie was neither horror-like nor Marvel-like. The reason for that is simple, it’s the devil we know. Everyone expected Wanda to be the villain of the movie. What we did not expect, however, was how fast this reveal would happen. Not even 10 minutes into the movie the entire world falls apart and Wanda sheds the appearance of a kind Avenger. She doesn’t want to be on that lunch box. The entire movie is Strange trying to curb Wanda’s rampage. However, the ending is something quite special.

Doctor Strange 2 Post-Credits Scene Explained

Strange dream walks into a dead variant of himself who is buried in Earth-616. This “zombie-strange” replaces our main protagonist in the final moments of the movie. 616 Strange is able to do this with the help of the Darkhold, a book written by Chthon, the ruler and inventor of Chaos magic. But this desecration of reality ends up costing Strange more than he bargained for. In the film’s final moments, we see the good doctor fall to his knees and sprout a third eye. This signifies that the Darkhold has taken control of this Strange like it did the one which Steven stole the Darkhold from.

Doctor Strange 2 post-credits scene explained

But that is not important, we are here to talk about what happens after that. The post-credits scene of Doctor Strange 2 sees the appearance of a new character who is played by Charlize Theron and mentioned only as Clea in the credits. This purple-clad Sorcereress is Doctor Clea Strange of the dark dimension. She is the daughter of Prince Orini (the rightful owner of the dark dimension) and Faltine (the estranged rebel sister of Dormammu). Clea is the Sorcerer Supreme of the dark dimension. This might explain why she is so eager to fix the damage that Strange’s incursion brought onto the multiverse.

Clea is a powerful Sorceress, she has challenged and defeated almost all the magic users in her dimension. Her presence in the MCU is an indication of the fact that all is not well. Her parents worshipped Dormammu at one point in the comics, so we cannot be sure where her loyalties lie in the MCU. But for now, she seems to be helping Strange. Although, with that third eye on his head, we are unsure as to how feasible that help is going to be.

The Possibilities

We knew that Charlize Theron would be appearing in the MCU, as per the leaks that came out some time ago, but we could have never expected that she would be playing Clea. Some people might mistake her to be Strange’s long-lost sister since her wiki calls her Clea ‘Strange’ but that is merely a moniker at this point. Speaking of which, we did get a very interesting insight into Strange’s childhood with the Donna revelation.

We cannot be sure about what will happen in the future of the MCU and anything we say now will only amount to speculation. But this movie was fantastic and whatever comes next is expected to follow suit.

Let me know what you thought about the movie and the after-credits scene down in the comments and keep watching this space for everything Marvel, DC, and Hollywood. Excelsior!!!
