How The Ancient One Secretly Saved Doctor Strange From Dying

This universe of Marvel characters that dominates the cinematic world today has become a phenomenon just because of its sheer size and mystery. We stand at the edge of the abyss and nothing is impossible from here. With the world premiere of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, we have come across a new world. One which cannot and does not shy away from its roots. Benedict Cumberbatch has a lot to be proud of. His portrayal as Strange is one of the most phenomenal in the MCU. But does anyone remember the time when The Ancient One secretly saved Doctor Strange from dying?

Yes, we have a secret detail from the first Doctor Strange for you today. This hidden gem changes Doctor Strange’s entire plotline and lets you see Sorcerer Supremes in their true element. Strange and The Ancient One are not very different than each other. Both of them don’t mind bending the rules a little bit. But their approach on how far they could be bent is a little than each other. While The Ancient One used the power of the Dark Dimension to bolster her own, Strange uses his raw intellect and the knowledge of the time stone to bulldoze through his opponents. But he had to work extremely hard to get to this point.

To become a Sorcerer is to become a master of the mystic arts. To achieve such a feat one must be able to remember a lot of information offhand. Moreover, one must be able to activate their imagination at a moment’s notice and weaponize it as necessary. Strange was not so good at the latter when he started off in Kamar-Taj. In fact, fans will remember that he couldn’t even conjure up a portal for a significant amount of time. It was only when he was stranded atop Mount Everest that was he able to make his first portal.

Ancient One opens his first portal with fan relic from MarvelTheories

It is a good scene but there is something hidden in the first spell Strange ever performed. Reddit user u/Silver_Telephone881 pointed out that Strange never actually opened the portal. If you look at the scene again, carefully, you will be able to see that The Ancient One uses her fan relic to open the portal for Strange. Meaning that Strange never opened the portal himself. It was a risky thing to do but it gave Strange enough confidence to do it himself the next time around. All Strange needed to become the Sorcerer Supreme was self-reliance and belief.

His view had been clouded by science for far too long. So now with his ‘first’ portal in the bag, Steven was able to take the bull by the horns. All of this to say, that The Ancient One did what any teacher would do. She gave Strange the answer and made him think that he was the one who figured it out when he was pushed into the corner. It is quite clever to play the situation out like that and it is nice to see that fans are still finding stuff in old movies.

The Future

The Ancient One secretly saved Doctor Strange

All of this to say, that The Ancient One is not who we think she is. She was a powerful Sorcerer and she is bound to appear again in the MCU. Maybe even in the Multiverse of Madness. There is an amount of mystery surrounding the character and her capabilities. She could show up even beyond death as she did in What If…?. No one can know if all of this was part of her plan or not. Maybe she knew that Strange would be among the first to wade through the multiverse and secretly orchestrated everything even from the grave?

We cannot know and saying anything would amount to speculation. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now released worldwide in cinemas.
