New MCU Updates Include Captain Marvel 2 Delay, and More

The Marvel Cinematic Universe received a lot of bombastic news recently. We received more content than we could have ever asked for in 2021, which changed the MCU forever. This content, including Loki season 1 ushered in the era of the multiverse and gave the fans a taste of what is coming up next. The MCU is building up to the Multiverse Of Madness but there are some important new MCU updates that you should know about. In particular, there are two pieces of news items that need your immediate attention. So keep reading as I give you the details and break down what it means for the MCU.

The two new updates I have for you today include the change in the release date of The Marvels and the exit of a particular director from the MCU. Both of these news comes to us courtesy of some other sources but I believe that the announcement of Loki season 2 and Secret Invasion had something to do with it the change in the release schedule. Marvel is planning something sinister in the MCU and we will have to look at the situation closely to make sure that we do not miss anything. Stick with us to find out just what is happening in the MCU.

New MCU Updates

First things first, Variety revealed in a report that Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels will be swapping release dates. This means that the Paul Rudd movie will now drop on February 17, 2023, while the sequel to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is now set to arrive on July 28, 2023. As delays go this is not a big one but the movie is still being pushed back a couple of months. We suspect this is because Quatumania has wrapped production while The Marvels will still take time to finish.

The second big news we have today is that No Way Home director Jon Watts has vacated the director’s chair for MCU’s Fantastic Four. Marvel President Kevin Feige and Vice President Louis D’Espisito had this to say,

“Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road”

Spider-Man: Far From Home New Asgard

It seems that the exit is amicable and Jon just needs a moment to breathe after working on three high-profile movies one after the other. He has this to say about his exit from the Fantastic Four,

“Making three Spider-Man films was an incredible and life-changing experience for me. I’m eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I’m hopeful we’ll work together again and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision for Fantastic Four brought to life.” This announcement explains why we have not heard anything about the Fantastic Four movie since the original announcement.”

The Future

New MCU updates

With the director’s seat empty the franchise’s future will remain in Limbo until Marvel Studios find a suitable replacement for Watts. For that to happen they must find someone who loves the MCU and can do justice to the Fantastic Four, like what Watts did for Spider-Man. We don’t know who this replacement could be but they would have a very heavy responsibility on their shoulder. Seeing as how Watts was handed the key to Spider-Man after only being an indie director at Sundance, we feel that Marvel has an eye for good directors and they will be able to find the right person for the job.

As for Captain Marvel, we feel that Carol’s story will be more cosmic in nature in her sequel. Both Secret Invasion and Loki are expected to link directly to this movie and we fully expect to see new Skrulls in the movie. The Marvels must become the de-facto cosmic response team in the MCU as we don’t have one in the absence of the Avengers.

Let us know how you feel about these new MCU updates down in the comments and keep watching this space for everything Marvel, DC, and Hollywood. Excelsior!!!
