WB Changes The Release Date of Black Adam, The Flash, Aquaman 2 and Other Films

This year was going to mark for some of the most exciting projects from Marvel and DC. Fans of both the franchises were going to see some of the major sequels and solo ventures featuring some rather interesting developments. This was actually exciting considering the last two years have seen some massive delays and fans had to keep themselves at the bay for the opportunity to witness the projects. Even though things have gotten a lot better and fans were expecting to see the movies soon, there seems to be another delay. Warner Bros. alters the release date of Black Adam, Aquaman 2, The Flash, Shazam! 2, and multiple other films.

DC Movie Delays

Release Date of Black Adam

The pandemic has had a massive impact on the entertainment industry. A lot of major projects that fans were excited to see had to be delayed in order to make sure that the production could finish them properly. Back in 2020, some of the major upcoming DC titles had to be delayed for a long period of time. The pandemic affected the shoot and caused these delays. The Batman was shifted to March of this year from its original release date. At the same time, The Flash was shifted to a November date of this year from its early date of June 3, 2022. This change affected other DC Extended Universe majorly and Black Adam, one of the most awaited DCEU projects, was taken off the calendar for a while. The movie had an original release date of December 22, 2021.

But these changes were actually considered final because the pandemic had relaxed a bit. A lot of promotional material for these projects ended up getting released online and they actually solidified the release dates. Even Marvel Studios delayed some of their projects for this year by a few months. Considering, The Batman finally made it to a release to the fixed date, fans expected the same from the other DC projects. But now it seems that Warner Bros. has once again decided to make some major changes in the plans for some of their biggest releases.

The Flash, Aquaman 2 Delayed

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom has been shifted to a release date for next year. The movie will now release on March 17, 2023, instead of its December 2022 date. Similarly, Black Adam has been pushed back to October 21, 2022, from July 2022. Even The Flash ended up getting a massive delay with the movie now set to release on June 23, 2023, from the original date sometime on November 2022. This came as an absolute surprise considering DC recently released a promo for all the superhero projects that we were going to witness this year.

Other Major Changes

While these projects have all been delayed, SHAZAM!: Fury of the Gods actually got moved up and will now be released on December 16. The movie was actually set to come out in mid-2023. Other Warner Bros. projects experiencing a delay include DC League of Super-Pets which has been pushed to July 29 from its release date on May. At the same time, Wonka, the prequel to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory has been pushed from March 2023 to December of 2023. Finally, The MEG 2 has been provided with a release date of August 4, 2023, and we will get to see Jason Statham return with some more giant shark action.

Release Date of Black Adam

The news was actually first revealed by Dwayne Johnson with a video on his Instagram account. He mentioned the delays of two of his DC projects, Black Adam and DC League of Super-Pets. There has been no clear explanation for this delay and change in dates. But it can actually be associated with major reshoots taking place for the projects. This has been seen before for major franchises like these as the Marvel Cinematic Universe also made some major changes with the release dates for some of their upcoming sequels.

We can be sure that this delay will also affect the release of other DCEU projects that haven’t been announced yet. Batgirl was being said to have a release date sometime around the end of the year. Considering the movie was going to have an HBO Max exclusive release, it could have managed to have gone through with that. But considering the movie will see Michael Keaton as Batman, it would require the arc from The Flash to build up to it. Thus we can assume that Batgirl will also shift to a release date sometime next year after the release of The Flash.
