Why Captain America and Vision are Crucial for Thor 4’s Story

Thor has been established as one of the most interesting narratives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The past three movies have changed a significant evolution for the character as he came to terms with his powers. This actually played an interesting role in the Avengers films too as he experienced some major loss in his arc. The most significant amount of development for the character was seen in Thor: Ragnarok. There are a lot of exciting events that we are going to witness in the latest outing for the character. The story for this movie will see Jane Foster making a return with some larger events set around her. It seems that Thor’s narrative in Thor: Love and Thunder won’t have been possible without Captain America and Vision.

Thor

We will get to see Thor again after the events of Endgame in Thor 4. This will mark the first time that a character has been given 4 solo ventures with each venture marking an interesting event for the character. One of the most significant parts of this movie will be the return of Jane Foster. Jane Foster was last seen having a proper appearance in Thor: The Dark World. Since then, there have been mentions about her character in the various projects that followed. There was some indication regarding Thor and Jane Foster having a break-up of sorts. But no clear insight was given into her character.

The most exciting part about Jane Foster’s return is the update that she will take the mantle of the God of Thunder. This was seen as a rather interesting narrative in the Marvel comics and event titled Mighty Thor. The fans are excited about this transformation since they were not happy about the way she was dealt with in The Dark World. There were even rumors about Natalie Portman having some disputes with Marvel Studios. All this will be nullified by the fact that she will be making a strong return to the MCU. The leaked details indicated that she will be wielding Mjolnir in the movie. This storyline is possible only because of two other major characters in the MCU.

Captain America and Vision

Avengers: Endgame Vision

It seems that Mjolnir will be an important part of the story of Love and Thunder. The leaked details also indicated that it would be put together from the shattered pieces when Hela crushed it. This idea of being worthy is something that has been laid out in MCU for a long time now. There was a big debate about it in Avengers: Age of Ultron. All the heroes made an attempt at picking it up to explore the idea of being worthy. Throughout the MCU, only two other characters other than Thor have been able to wield the Mjolnir. These two are Vision and Captain America.

Thor Mjolnir

We found that Vision was worthy of wielding the Mjolnir when he picked up the hammer quite simply in Age of Ultron. It almost appeared as if he was completely aware of the concept of being worthy and how it played a role in wielding the hammer. But Captain America’s moment of wielding the hammer was a lot more exciting when it happened during Endgame. As the heroes were fighting Thanos, we saw Cap holding out his hands and the Mjolnir going straight for him. This was actually teased back in Avengers 2 when he was the only hero who was able to move it a little.

Captain America and Vision

The concept of being worthy is something that has been explored quite a lot in MCU. Thor’s initial introduction saw him being rather proud and it actually led to his downfall and banishment. It took him time to come to terms with the fact that he was more than the hammer. When Vision ends up wielding it, Thor was left speechless along with the rest of the Avengers. But when Captain America did it, Thor shouted in excitement: I knew it. This was a clear indication of how much he has grown and realized his worth without the hammer.

This character progression will be a significant part of Jane wielding Mjolnir. We can clearly see that this has been building into the MCU for quite a long time now. It is about time that the mantle was handed over to someone after they ended up being worthy. It would work as a challenge for the character and it would provide further growth for Thor too.

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in theaters worldwide on July 8.
