Peacemaker Loves Batman in the DCEU. Theory EXPLAINED!

A very subtle hint was included in Peacemaker’s first episode, implying he stans Batman. Though the evidence was fake, we still think that it was true, and Peacemaker loves Batman. There are a lot of reasons why we think so. So fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride.

SPOILER AHEAD!!!

James Gunn’s Peacemaker is finally streaming on HBO Max. The show premiered with three awesome episodes, featuring tons of easter eggs and callbacks to the comics and its prequel film. The show picked up 5 months after the Corto Maltese incident, with Christopher Smith in the hospital. He was recovering from a fractured clavicle and a gunshot wound, thanks to Idris Elba’s Bloodsport. Now a free man (almost!), Peacemaker comes back to his hometown (Evergreen). There, Clemson Murn, an ARGUS executive, recruits Smith for an off-the-books mission, Project Butterfly. Besides John Cena’s Peacemaker, returning characters include Emilia Harcourt and John Economos.

The first episode of the show heavily featured that Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller did not influence the mission. Well, they could not have been more wrong. Just the over-controlling character she is, Waller had to be involved. But what didn’t expect was her to be the mother of one of the members of Project B, Leota Adebayo. Apparently, she was the mole of the team and leaked the team’s progress to her mother. She also did her dirty work, just like any other daughter would do! One of the things she told her to do, was place a forged diary in Peacemaker’s trailer home. The diary very subtly hinted towards the comics with a Wayne Foundation sticker, hinting at Peacemaker’s fondness towards Batman, another vigilante. But was it true?

WAS PEACEMAKER A BATMAN STAN?!

Many people get surprised when they hear this but not us. Unsurprisingly, Peacemaker does seem like someone who would consider Batman his mentor. The first reason is, of course, the diary. It was like a journal with a sticker that read, Peacemaker’s Diary. The journal’s cover had many small stickers that may correspond to Peacemaker’s personality. He may appear to be a tough nut but by the second episode, viewers knew that inside, he was an abused kid who wanted to live up to his father’s expectations. Now the crying kid on the cover makes a lot of sense. Other than that, the cover had stickers of Saturn and Wayne Foundation.

The Wayne Foundation sticker was an amazing callback to the comic and attracted a lot of fans’ attention. It may be different from DCEU’s Wayne Enterprises but we are not here to talk about that. The logo hints at Peacemaker being a Batman fan, but it is still fake. So, there might be two possibilities here. Either the diary is a complete fake or is a direct replica of the OG diary.

REASONS WHY WE BELIEVE IT IS TRUE?

If we believe the former, Waller may be framing Peacemaker as Murn had promised him freedom and Waller may not be ready for it. This seems like a classic Waller move. she even said that the diary had just come from his forger (the mere fact that she has a forger implies her insanity). And if we believe the latter, it seems more natural that Peacemaker stans Batman and has been doing it since he was a child. We know that Christopher’s father used to abuse him and beat him. When every father was his kid’s hero, Christopher may have hated his father and may have found a sense of security listening to Batman’s actions in Gotham. If it was Ben Affleck’s Batman, Christopher may have been an early teen at the time and would have idolized him.

However, we need to consider the fact that DCEU’s Batman may have been successful in hiding his identity from the world. In this case, there would have been no chance that Smith knew that Wayne was Batman. Then why was he so fond of Wayne that he stuck his company’s logo on his personal diary? We think it was Bruce Wayne’s playboy personality and his persona as a successful white man that a young and racist Christopher Smith might have been attracted to. If we consider that, then we know that one of the two following things is true. Either Bruce Wayne has been so good in hiding his alter-egos and vigilantism, or Smith is too foolish to connect the dots and realize that Bruce Wayne is the Caped Crusader.

Some fans even believe that Waller’s actions are due to her hatred towards Batman and subsequently, towards Bruce Wayne. If Waller is trying to frame Peacemaker, this might be her dirty little trick to frame Bruce with him. Don’t worry as soon we will get the answers as to what Christopher thinks of Wayne or Batman. So wait for the forged diary to come into play.
