Will The Daughter Of Drax Appear In GOTG Vol. 3? James Gunn Answers!!

The  Marvel Cinematic Universe is all set to come up with some of the most exciting titles in the upcoming years. These projects will mostly witness the addition of fresh new faces to the MCU’s roster of heroes. There are various shows and features that will play a significant role in the world-building for the future of the MCU. Some of these projects will also be continuations to the series of movies where we got to explore a certain set of characters. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is one such project that is going to come out in the near future. As usual, the movie will feature characters that will give us a fair idea of the massiveness of the MCU universe. It was rumored that Daniela Melchior was supposed to be a part of GOTG Vol. 3 as Drax’s daughter but James Gunn himself has debunked these rumors.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

We will finally be getting a finale to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies with James Gunn returning to both write and direct the project. This comes after a lot of delays considering the massive amount of drama that went behind the fruition of the project. Gunn was fired from Disney based on some of his Tweets that were uncovered during that time and then he was rehired. During this period Gunn continuously teased his plans for the final addition in his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. It should come as no wonder that we will be getting a project very soon with the entirety of the caste making a return. The movie will also mark Dave Bautista’s final appearance in the role of Drax.

Casting Rumor

Daughter Of Drax

Rumors regarding Daniela Melchior appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sprung up recently and fans even started theorizing what role she might play in the movie. These rumors started spreading after the actress posted images of her receiving prosthetic makeup on set on Instagram. The prosthetic makeup specifically included a bucket of green paint. Fans linked it to the character of Moondragon and believed that the actress would appear as Drax’s daughter.

James Gunn’s Statement

James Gunn has been very vocal about the fan theories surrounding his projects and has always come up clean about anything anyone had to say about his projects. He instantly denied this rumor on Twitter and said that this is a false claim. The director even joked about the rumor by saying that he would have actually considered including the character in the script if he would have seen the actress in the prosthetic makeup before.

He said:

Honestly maybe if I had seen Daniela Melchior in a bald wig & how cool she looked maybe I would have written Moondragon into the script but Daniela was lazy & didn’t post that picture until today so if you want to blame someone you’re going to have to blame her.

Gunn’s Honesty & MCU’s Secrecy

While this rumor might be false, there are still hopes for the actress to make an appearance in the movie considering when a fan asked if she would be appearing, Gunn responded with, “Maybe”. But there is no idea whether the actress would actually be appearing in the character that has been rumored. Gunn is known for his continuous interaction with fans about the development of his projects. This was very clear when rumors regarding Will Poulter being cast Adam Warlock came to be and the director Tweeted in confirmation of the rumor.

But Marvel is known for its tendency to use any possible means to keep secrecy surrounding its projects. This was seen when Jonathan Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror, had denied rumors of him appearing in the Disney+ show Loki. Even Tatiana Maslany denied her association with MCU for the Disney+ series She-Hulk . Often these were taken as jokes considering Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch and Ant-Man star Paul Rudd denied the rumors of their roles in MCU. If Daniela Melchior is indeed cast as the character in MCU then that could be a rather important plot. As we said the movie would mark the final appearance of Drax as played by Dave Bautista, the character of Moondragon might be used as a means of carrying his legacy into the future of MCU.

James Gunn is known for his tendency of bringing along actors he has previously worked along with, in different projects and this was clearly seen in this year’s The Suicide Squad. We got to see Pom Klementieff have a cameo in the movie while at the same time Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn had significant roles, considering all these three stars have major roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. So there’s a chance that Daniela Melchior might be appearing as the daughter of Drax after all!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to release on May 5, 2023.
