The Twist of Eternals Was Possibly Ruined By Guardians of the Galaxy

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a sprawling collection of characters of all shapes and sizes. We have huge powerhouses and small sinister critters. There is no end to what you will find here when you turn your head. But this is because Marvel Studios has taken the time to cultivate their characters and build their worlds. Their world-building often gives us hints about what we can expect in the future but these are not always explicit hints. Case in point, the twist of Eternals was possibly ruined by Guardians of the Galaxy.

There is a theory going around the interwebs. It has to do with the plot of Eternals. During the marketing of the movie, we have received a lot of insight into the vision behind this project. Marvel and director Zhao have been pretty vocal about how Eternals will push the envelope in moviemaking. It is considered to be a piece of art that inspires immediate praise or rejection. With such powerful emotions flowing one wonders what will be the third of the movie be about. Well, we have an idea.

We want to talk about how Marvel has insidiously laid down the foundation of the third act of Eternals all throughout its history. Particularly through the Guardians of the Galaxy films. The celestials are the beings that command the Eternals. They were also the ones who instructed Eternals not to interfere in the matters of humans unless deviants were involved. So is there a possibility that the celestials have something other than the best of humanity in their minds? Join us as we attempt to answer this question based on the evidence we have.

Twist Of Eternals

The twist of Eternals is bound to be the hidden agenda of The Celestials. What could these mythical beings be planning? We think the MCU has already told us. The Celestials likely are autocratic rulers who will not let anyone stand in front of their authority and they probably do whatever they want. To support this let us look at the evidence. During the collector’s vault scene in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 1, we are told that Arishem the judge went around the universe with other Celestials judging civilizations.

Those that were deemed unworthy were eradicated with the use of the power stone. Similarly, During the events of Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 2, we were introduced to Ego claimed to be a Celestial. Ego seemed nice at first but then he tried to take over Star-Lord’s body, so he turned out to be evil. The last piece of evidence we have comes from Thor: Ragnarok. The Grandmaster is a celestial who enslaves people and makes them battle for his own pleasure. These do not seem to be the actions of benevolent Gods.

All of this seems like something a ruthless dictator would do. So why do The Eternals follow The Celestials? We think this is because of their upbringing and their cultural heritage. They were taught to worship the Celestials as Gods from a young age and they don’t know any better. But we have seen their true faces and we think that the twist of Eternals is that Eternals will oppose the Celestials to protect humanity. This will probably happen in the third act of the movie when the Deviants are dealt with.

The Final Act

The stay of Eternals on earth has changed them and this will enable them to look past their inherent conditioning. Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) is married to a man, ad he even has a son with him. Similarly, Sersi is dating a man named Dane. Ajak (Salma Hayek) says that “people have changed her.” But, not all Eternals like humans. Sprite (Lia McHugh) is especially opposed to the idea of treating humans as equals. Also, the position of Thena (Angelia Jolie), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) is not clear on the subject.

We believe that their individual motivations are something that the movie will explore in detail. Their emotional acumen and how they process the emergence will be crucial in determining their decision at the end of the movie, including if they stay with the Celestials or choose to oppose them. We think that the Eternals will end up choosing humanity and they’ll effectively replace Avengers until a more fitting team arrives to take over their role in the MCU.
