Shang-Chi Theory: This Is Not The Same Abomination From The Incredible Hulk
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is going to bombard the MCU with new characters and a strong storyline. I am personally excited to see Simu Lui as the lead. The movie is just around 2 months away from us and it keeps getting better. Well, speaking of the approach, we were recently given the newest trailer for the movie. Right away, the biggest attraction in the trailer was The Abomination. I mean, it happened all of a sudden and I wasn’t expecting that. However, the reason why we consider it as the Abomination is that how uncanny the resemblance was. But still, he looks different with the fins and everything. So a new theory suggests that it isn’t the same Abomination from The Incredible Hulk (2008).
This Isn’t The Abomination From The Incredible Hulk
As surprising as it may seem, one thing we can clear is that it is The Abomination after all, but just not the one that we’ve seen. One of the reasons for this is the change in his appearance. The Abomination was born from gamma radiation after Samuel Sterns injected Blonsky with Bruce Banner’s blood. But over the years, Hulk hasn’t changed his appearance this drastically. I mean he did become the Smart-Hulk, but he didn’t evolve. So, maybe this isn’t the Abomination that we know.
So, who is he? Well, he could be the Abomination but a different version. If we refer to the comics, various versions of the character have been introduced over the years such as female Abominatrix and the Teen Abomination. But in the new-new, a more recent version of the character comes from Al Ewing and Joe Bennett’s The Immortal Hulk series.
The story goes something like this. In order to capture the Hulk, General Reginald Fortean takes the remains of the Abomination, only to combine them with the body of Rick Jones. This new Abomination acted like a suit that can blow radioactive acid while taking on the Hulk. Pretty lethal, I’d say! Well, another Frankestien creation of the Hulk was controlled by Fortean. But it doesn’t stop here. Fortean’s obsession with the Hulk gets so out of control that he transforms his own body. If not this, then Ross could’ve used Blonsky’s blood to create a superior version of the Abomination, which is easily controlled.
Is Shang-Chi Abomination Connected To Loki?
Well, the theory also suggests that it is in fact, the Abomination, but a variant of his. This is something that was explained earlier on in the Disney+ series, Loki. Moreover, in episode 2 “The Variant,” it is revealed that a variant of Loki (Sylvie) itself bombed the Sacred Timeline. And this is exactly the type of thing that could cause a major multiverse crossover event. She did so by sending reset charges in a bunch of places, all having a different time-stamp. However, the purpose behind her actions is unclear. But whatever it is, I can assure you that it not something simple or vague.
If this indeed is a variant of the Abomination, then it would only go to prove that the events unfolding in Loki will have a long-lasting effect on the entire MCU. But we are yet to see the end result of Sylvie’s action. So, we can assume that it is a variant of the Abomination who hopped timelines and ended up here, fighting a mysterious sorcerer who is thought to be Wong.
What Is The Abomination Doing In Shang-Chi?
The way the Abomination looks now, it is clear that he has significantly evolved over the years, only to resemble his comic book counterpart in a close manner. But what is he even doing in Shang-Chi? Well, we theorized earlier on that he could be fighting in the Ten Rings Tournament, fighting off some serious opponents. Also, his classic fish fin ears represent a serious evolution to the character, if it is in fact, the Abomination.
The main reason for him to fight in the Ten RIngs Tournament is to take on the mantle of the Mandarin and wield the Ten Rings. Moreover, we previously explained how there have been predecessors to the throne of the Mandarin. And the trailer suggests that Shang-Chi was always destined to be the one, but he isn’t evil like his dad. So just like the Abomination, there will be other competitors to claim the throne.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrives in theaters on September 3, 2021.
