‘Lady In The Lake’ Show Casts Marvel Stars Natalie Portman & Lupita Nyong’o

Laura Lippman, the bestselling author has returned with a novel set in 1960s Baltimore that combines modern psychological insights with elements of classic noir, about a middle-aged housewife, turned aspiring reporter who pursues the murder of a forgotten young woman.

Natalie Portman and Lupita Nyong’o have been cast in Lady In The Lake. Both are established film actresses and Oscar winners, with Portman known for such films as Closer, Star Wars, and Jackie, and winning an Oscar for Best Actress for Black Swan. Nyong’o won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave and has since been seen in Us and According to Slashfilm, Portman and Nyong’o will be teaming up for the Apple TV+ crime drama, Lady in the Lake, a limited series based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Laura Lippman, taking place in Baltimore in the 1960s after an unsolved murder.

Portman will play Maddie Schwartz, a housewife, and mother who is aspiring to be an investigative journalist, while Nyong’o will portray Cleo Sherwood, a progressive activist mother with numerous jobs. The series will be directed by Alma Har’el, known for Honey Boy. Har’el will additionally co-write the show with Dre Ryan (The Man In The High Castle). Portman and Nyong’o are also set to executive produce with Lippman, Har’el, and Ryan, as well as Jean-Marc  Vallée and Nathan Ross (Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects), whose company, Crazyrose, will produce the limited series.

This will be Nyong’o and Portman’s first main roles on television, joining a long list of movie stars who have transitioned to television roles, particularly in the limited series arena. Both women have also been known for championing female storytellers in front of and behind the camera and the roster on this series certainly fits the bill. Natalie Portman is returning as Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder. She is set to become the Mighty Thor.  Plot details are still largely being kept under wraps, but some things have already been revealed. Courtesy of Natalie Portman Updates, the video shows the actress jerking around as though caught in some kind of windstorm. It could be that this is the moment Jane gets her Mighty Thor powers.
