Marvel Has Acquired Alien and Predator Comic Franchises

Marvel Acquired Alien and Predator Comic Franchises

There’s like an infinite number of great characters that exist in Marvel comics. And yet, they’ve acquired the rights to 2 more great properties from Dark Horse Comics. It comes as a great surprise as Marvel could really do something cool with the Alien & Predator franchises. Be sure that Marvel might revamp their backstories and find new ways to amalgamate these two dark and savage characters with the ones from Marvel. The following two images of David Finch’s artwork have been revealed by IGN as they made the new announcement of Marvel’s acquisition:

IGN reported that Marvel will now “expand on the characters and settings of the various Alien and Predator movies.” IGN further gives us clarity upon Predator and Xenomorph’s movie status:

“To be clear, the Predator teaser isn’t meant to suggest the two franchises will be integrated into the Marvel Universe (as was the case when Marvel reacquired the Conan license in 2018).”

While these two properties aren’t greenlit to appear in Marvel movies just yet, still can’t let go of the thought that their addition into the MCU might be the ultimate goal. After all, both Predator & Alien franchises haven’t had the critical & commercial success with their last few films. With Disney having the movie rights to these properties and Marvel having control over their stories, they could certainly be used in the MCU later on when the time is right. It’d allow for some great crossover stories. And with the brand image of MCU, Predator & Xenomorph might turn out to be profitable as well. Let’s see how things will turn out.

Artist David Finch talked about getting the opportunity to draw Predator and Xenomorph’s Marvel adventures. He said:

“Alien and Predator are the two of the most identifiable, iconic characters of all time, and I love them for that. But mostly, it’s being fortunate enough to be a kid when they were new. I’ve seen every movie they’ve ever been in, and I cannot wait to see them wreaking havoc in the Marvel Universe. I drew my pictures of them with a massive smile on my face.”
