Why Diana Won’t Use Her Sword & Shield:
The first trailer of Wonder Woman 1984 arrived just recently and there were quite a lot of intricate details that were hidden inside the trailer. But one basic detail that people aren’t talking about that much is that Wonder Woman wasn’t seen using her shield or her sword in the trailer. Her sword was destroyed in the previous movie, but she did have a shield and a sword in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. So, we assumed that she got a new pair somewhere between Wonder Woman & BvS. But apparently, she hasn’t found one until Wonder Woman 1984.
Is there a reason why the sword & shield hasn’t returned? Well, Gal Gadot has revealed this reasoning. In a recent interview with CinePop, she said:
“Wonder Woman does not carry a weapon. We had an intention to let go of the sword, because there’s something very aggressive with a sword. If you have a sword, it means you need to use it. So we wanted to give that up. And we didn’t feel that the shield was necessary either. She’s a goddess, she can fight, she’s super strong, and she has the skills. So no, she has the gauntlets. She has the lasso. She has her tiara and that’s about it.”
Wonder Woman is coming off as a different hero now. What Gal Gadot says does make sense, but Wonder Woman gets back to using her Shield and sword in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. So, by the end of Wonder Woman 1984, we should see Wonder Woman getting her new shield and her new sword. After all, Themiscyra gets involved once again in this upcoming Wonder Woman story. But there’s a chance that we might not see Wonder Woman getting her Shield and sword back and we’ll just have to believe that she got it back sometime between Wonder Woman 1984 7 Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
But the one interesting factor about Wonder Woman 1984 is that she’s bringing in some new elements this time. We’d see her invisible jet in the movie, and along with that, we’d also see her don the new Golden Eagle armor to fight Cheetah. Wonder Woman really looks awesome in this new armor.
Patty Jenkins talked about everything different that happens in Wonder Woman 1984. Here’s what she said:
“You know what was cool. We’re treating the era differently than I’ve seen so far, which I feel like there have a lot of interesting versions of doing the era. In our version, as a child of the ’80s myself, yes there was funny, ha-ha outfits I can’t believe I wore, for sure.
But there’s also incredible music, incredible art. And so I really felt like the 1980s is mankind at their most extreme and at their best. It was when we could do anything we wanted and we had no idea of the price yet. So we have really committed to that version of the ’80s, where it’s not needle drops, and it’s not a bunch of jokes. It’s actually the most aspirational and elegant version of the ’80s in many places.”
The future of WB seems to be very bright. Wonder Woman 3 will take place after the events of Justice League and we’re totally ready for it. But let’s talk about that later. Ever since Aquaman, things have changed. People are loving DC Films. Shazam! was a minor set-back in terms of the Box Office but everyone who saw the film absolutely loved it. So that was a win. Then Joker turned out to be the biggest win DC Films have ever registered. And now, we’ve got Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 coming out. Both of these women-centric films feel quite refreshing and unique. They will release on February 7, 2020, & June 5, 2020, respectively.
