Marvel climbed new heights after the release of Black Panther in 2018. The movie was very successful and bought in more than a billion dollars at the box office and was critically acclaimed as well. Its success can be taken in from the fact that it was the first superhero film ever to get a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars. One of the reasons for the success of Black Panther was a great villain in Erik Kilmonger. Black Panther 2 is set to release in May 2022. One of the reasons, for the success of superhero films in the recent past, has been great casting and writing of the villains. And, for BP 2 to be awesome, again the villain has to be great.
Black Panther 2 will only be better if it tops the first film’s antagonist. And it seems that Marvel is taking
a different route than we thought. Initially, it was believed that Namor will be the main villain in the sequel. But most likely that won’t happen. The new villain, wait for it could be – DOCTOR DOOM. Yes, Marvel scooper Charles Murphy suggests Victor Von Doom will be introduced through Black Panther.
Another talk which is doing the rounds in the Marvel community is Doctor Doom getting his own series on Disney+. Initially, everyone though Doctor Doom might not get that much importance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But it seems that he is going to get a bigger intro than anyone expected.
His role would be to expand his empire, conquering parts of Africa. This will bring him into conflict with the nation of Wakanda and T’Challa.
Now, this fight between the two could be amazing. This would be the kind of film that involves technology we’ve never even dreamt of. Doctor Doom wanting to invade Wakanda actually happened in the “Doomwar” story in the comics. We already know how rich Wakanda is and now the world knows about it as well. So, this could have made Doctor Doom interested in the country for its rich resources.
In the comics, the story involved T’Challa preventing Vibranium from Doom. It’s be interesting to see how Doom will get his powers in MCU. And he’d be the first ex-Fox character to join the MCU. But then again, all of this could be false. The villain could still Namor and Doctor Doom could be just teased and in Black Panther 2. But, having him in BP 2 makes sense now.
Avengers: Endgame teased Namor with its underwater Earthquake. Okoye’s comments made it seem
that Wakanda and Atlantis are at war. And that’d be amazing to witness as well. Marvel might want to introduce Atlantis soon as DC has already done it. And, we can see Doctor Doom coming in and he could be a part of the villains’ team in Avengers 5.
In November 2018, director Ryan Coogler expressed that he’s under pressure while building on the sequel due to the first film’s success, he will “focus on trying to make something that has some type of meaning” for the film. And this meaning could definitely point out to feature really good villains. Kevin Feige recently has confirmed that scripting has begun and since it began after the Fox acquisition there’s a strong case fo Doctor Doom.
So let’s see who’d be chosen. Black Panther 2 releases on May 6, 2022. Tell us your pick of the villain for Black Panther.
