Batwoman series:
CW’s latest super-heroine show Batwoman is only 3 episodes old yet and some fans have already declared it a complete and utter failure. Batwoman is the latest show in the Arrowverse and it features Ruby Rose as Batwoman and it is also the latest victim to Review Bombing.
Batwoman tells the story of Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s cousin who fights for justice in Gotham City in the absence of Batman. People have been waiting for this show for a while now as Batwoman is an intriguing character with lots of layers and depth.
People have bombarded this show with negative reviews since its trailer dropped and the hate has only grown stronger since then. The current IMDB rating of this show is 3.1 and the Rotten Tomatoes audience score stands at 12%. There is a stark difference in the opinions of critics and fans which leads to the question – Is the show really that bad?
The simple answer is No. The show is not at all as bad as people are rating it. There is no justifiable reason for this hate and it is completely wrong and unfair. That being said, we agree that the show is not perfect and it has many flaws, but we are certain that it does not deserve its current rating.
The Pilot episode was on par with the pilots of other CW shows and you should definitely give it a chance and form your own opinion. So, why is the show getting so many negative reviews?
Some people are arguing that the show is Anti-Batman and Anti-Men as the lead character is a lesbian and promotes hardcore feminism. Well, that can’t possibly be a valid reason for all the hate as any real DC comic book fan knows the fact that Batwoman is openly gay in the comics as well. The show-makers have not introduced a new dynamic to the character as this was already present in the comic books which debuted years ago.
The show is not Anti-Men, it just promotes a woman as a powerful lead character. We all have always loved powerful women-centric characters like Sarah Connor(Terminator), Wonder Woman, The Bride (Kill Bill), Ellen Ripley (Aliens). So, it’s clear that we don’t care if a character is male or female, as long as it is good.
Ruby Rose is a badass and she proved that in John Wick and after seeing the first few episodes, we can say that her performance is solid in the show which proves the fact that the hate for the show is baseless and holds no weight.
Some People have given negative reviews to show without even watching it, which is just baffling. Only a fraction of negative reviewers have a genuine reason behind their rating and the rest are making the argument that the show is very political. There is a general trend nowadays to hate on movies or shows which has a female lead.
Don’t get us wrong, a show should be developed for entertainment and not for promoting a political agenda and whenever it is forced, it is off-putting. But in Batwoman’s case, it is not out of place. Her sexuality is a part of her character development and it has been that way for years in the comic books.
Entertainment is a very subjective concept as different people have different tastes and when it comes to Batwoman, we absolutely agree that the show is not a masterpiece. It is not the female version of the Dark Knight. It has several flaws but that doesn’t mean the show doesn’t have any potential.
Batwoman is in no way worse than the early episodes of the other Arrowverse shows and it definitely deserves a chance from all of you. Check out the show for yourself without giving in to the reviews and we are certain that you will agree with us.
Hopefully, the ratings of the show will increase with time as it has a lot of potentials and if CW does it right, it can be a big hit.
