Does Jason Momoa Shaving His Beard Now Have a Connection With His Game of Thrones Return?
Game of Thrones Season 8 just arrived with subtle fan-pleasing moments and we loved every bit of the episode. I wasn’t the best Game of Thrones episode but it was arguably the best opening for a season as there was a lot packed in this quick-paced season premiere. There were little key setups, various reunions, and revelations that were loved by all of us. We would see various characters making their return, but is it possible for the dead characters to come back?
Fans have suspected that we could get to see the return on Ned Stark somehow. We’ve already seen a younger version of Eddard Stark in Season 6, and now people suspect that we could somehow see Sean Bean make some sort of return. It could be through a flashback sequence. Afterall, it is the final season and there has to be some sort of homage paid to lead characters from Season 1.
Talking about Season 1 leads, we could also get a homage paid to another Season one lead, i.e. Khal Drogo. This was in many ways, Jason Momoa’s break out role and it is what probably helped him bag Aquaman. His character was really important for the development of Danny, and so if Ned Stark could make a return somehow, then Khal Drogo shouldn’t be left behind.
This show has been grounded and gritty but it also has major fantasy moments throughout. Bran has shown us time travel in certain ways and he could lead to the return of all these dead characters. It’s funny how Endgame and Game of Thrones are similar in more ways than you can imagine. But let’s not talk about that for now.
The reason we’re discussing the return of certain characters, and possibly Khal Drogo in particular is because Jason Momoa recently posted a video shaving his glorious Aquaman beard, and while that was a move to make the world a cleaner and better place, could it have been connected to Game of Thrones Season 8 somehow?
Momoa was done with Aquaman months back, and that was probably when Game of Thrones was shooting. So he could have been on set for a scene or two. Considering everything that is at stake for Danny, we could probably see a pay-off to one of the biggest parts of her life, i.e. her first love, her son and stars, Khal Momoa.
It would be too far of a stretch, but anything is possible, even with Game of Thrones! Even if he doesn’t return in the season, we know that he, Sean Bean would be there in a Game of Thrones special episode that will be available for us to get with the BluRay pack of the final season.
This season is going to be full of epic moments, but it will also be a massively emotional ride. Here’s what Kit Harrington had to say about it:
“The last season of Thrones seemed to be designed to break us. Everyone was broken at the end. I don’t know if we were crying because we were sad it was ending or if we were crying because it was so fucking tiring. We were sleep deprived. It was like it was designed to make you think, Right, I’m fucking sick of this. I remember everyone walking around towards the end going, ‘I’ve had enough now. I love this, it’s been the best thing in my life, I’ll miss it one day – but I’m done.’”
This season will bring about the end of this storyline, and Director David Nutter did mention that he was completely satisfied with the way that the show comes to an end:
I’m completely satisfied with how season 8 ends. I think that [the showrunners] did a tremendous job, and they took into consideration what the fans want, as well as what is right as far as storytelling is concerned. I guarantee there’s going to be lots of surprises and shocking moments, but it’s really very compelling stuff.”
The next episode will premiere next Sunday, April 21.
