Avengers: Endgame Theory –
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown so has its roster of heroes. We have seen an alien crash land on our world only to become its protector, we have witnessed a man out of time come back to life and take over the leadership of the Earth’s mightiest heroes, we have seen a man determined to do good in a life of espionage, we have seen a woman come back from the abyss when she joined the Avengers after a life of being a mercenary for hire, and lastly we have seen a mechanic create a suit of armor to eradicate the terrorism his company created.
The life of Marvel heroes has been one full of turmoil and the sad part is, there is only conflict and bloodshed ahead. But as a wise man once said, “Wars fought for the protection of the human race is not only our right but our duty”. As time has passed the fandom has come to a realization, these people। are Gods and they lead the charge of our protection.
The only members of the Avengers that fight as pure individuals have to be the super spies, vis-à-vis Hawkeye, and Black Widow. These two have held their ground against forces none of us can ever fathom to oppose. Their skills and combat abilities exceed anything that anyone has ever witnessed in the human realm. I shouldn’t be surprised since in the comics Black Widow is the master of all forms of espionage and she’s the go-to infiltration expert in SHIELD.
The art of war is something that both Hawkeye and Black Widow are well versed in. Maybe that is the reason that when Black Widow landed on the radar of Nick Fury as a deadly assassin the agent dispatched to deal with her was none other than Clint Barton aka Hawkeye himself. The events of Avengers tell us that Clint chose not to execute Natasha on this mission, rather he brought her to the right side, he converted her into a SHIELD asset and the bond between the two strengthened even further as colleagues, comrades, and friends.
Now that the Avengers: Endgame trailer is out, we can see how tables have turned. The man who was the one to rescue Natasha has now lost his way. It seems from the trailer that Hawkeye is operating as Ronin, a persona he assumes in times of extreme rage and once when he was on the run after Civil War in the comics. Ronin is the manifestation of the rage of Hawkeye and his frustration of the injustice in the world. It seems from the trailer that Hawkeye will suffer a tragedy with regards to his family and the snap and this will lead to him taking up the persona of Ronin.
We also know that at the start of Endgame, the Avengers (the ones that remain alive on Earth) will be led by Captain America who will attempt to deal with the post-snap fallout on Earth. There is the latest theory that believes that Ronin will land on the radar of Captain America not unlike Natasha once landed on Fury’s radar and Black Widow will be dispatched by the Captain to deal with this rogue mercenary.
The idea is that Natasha will come face to face with Ronin before realizing that she has been hunting Hawkeye all this time and when Black Widow finds out that his objective is none other than the man who once saved her, she chooses to make the choice Barton made when saving her.
Endgame is going to challenge our heroes like never before. We are about to witness the growth of the Avengers well beyond their established characters. The mental turmoil when the audiences see a conflicted Hawkeye burdened by loss will be enough to move even the strongest of fans to tears. This is what Kevin Feige and the writers are aiming for, a tear-jerking moment that reminds us of Hawkeye’s humanity and Natasha’s bond with him. The soldier will come back into the fold to defeat Thanos but that will only happen after an initial struggle. Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26th, 2019, up until then, keep watching this space for everything Marvel.
