While people are excited for the big Superhero movies coming out this year, there are also some reboot sequels which you could check out this year. Sony is launching a new MiB franchise with Men in Black: International, and Paramount is doing that with Terminator 6. While there’s still almost a year left for the movie to arrive, we’re still pretty inquisitive about it since the big man James Cameron is involved again, and Deadpool director Tim Miller is in charge of the project.
What’s even great is the fact that Arnold is returning and this will supposedly be his final film as the Cybernetic Organism. After the massive bomb which was Terminator: Genisys, it didn’t seem that Arnold would get to return as the beloved character again. But it was because of James Cameron that we got him back.
Here’s what Cameron told Yahoo about Terminator 6, confirming the fact he explicitly insisted for Arnie and Lynda Carter to return:
“I said ‘I can’t be involved in this film at all if Arnold’s not in it… Linda? I strongly recommend it because I think fans are going to want to see her again… they’re going to want to see the real Sarah Connor, and what time and dealing with these tragic futures has done to her’.”
So, thank you, Cameron. What’s great is that Cameron also told Yahoo that the current working title of Terminator 6 is Terminator: Dark Fate. Whether or not this ends up becoming the official title of the film is debatable, but we can admit that this is a good title. It is a little cliché, and doesn’t have a specific meaning, but sometimes titles like these do end of working. Moreover, we are good with any title apart from Genisys 2!
James Cameron had a whole lot to talk about in the last few Interviews as he said:
“We’re developing a new Terminator film. And The Terminator films are all about artificial intelligence. But I would say we’re looking at it differently than when I wrote the first story in 1982. That was just your classic ‘technology bad, smart computers bad’ kind of thing. Nowadays though — it’s got to be a much more nuanced perspective. So its ‘Smart computers bad… BUT…’ That’s the new motif.”
So this movie is going to continue the story of the 2 good Terminator movies that James Cameron previously directed. The events of Terminator 3, 4 & 5 will be ignored just like Halloween (2018) ignored all the other crappy Halloween movies and was a direct sequel to the one that came out in 1978. This is supposed to be the movie where Arnie passes on the Baton to someone else (probably Gabriel Luna) and departs from the franchise on a very high note.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is very confident about this movie because of Cameron and Miller. He said:
“I think Cameron and [director Tim] Miller came up with a concept where they can continue on with the T-800 but make a whole new movie. What they are doing now with this one is basically to just take a few very basic characters, like Linda Hamilton’s character and my character, and dismiss everything else. Just move away from all these rules of the timeline and other characters.”
Hopefully, this Terminator movie ends up telling a compelling story and gives Arnie the greatest retirement that he totally deserves. Considering the fact that this movie is in very capable hands we should not worry, but after Genisys, we cannot take a breather until we see Terminator 6.
Directed by Tim Miller from a script written by Billy Ray, David S. Goyer, Justin Rhodes, Josh Friedman and Charles H. Eglee, Terminator 6 stars Mackenzie Davis, Gabriel Luna, Natalia Reyes, Diego Boneta with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton as Sarah Conner. It comes out on November 1, 2019.
