Avengers 4 Theory: Nebula Will Make a Heartbreaking Sacrifice to Save the MCU

Avengers 4 will come out and leave people even more heartbroken than Infinity War, as this time the heroes who die won’t be coming back! The biggest speculation suggests that Captain America and Hawkeye will be amongst the ones who will ultimately bite the dust. But amongst the guardians, Nebula has to be the one that goes down while others come back from the dead. Others shall continue into future franchises.

Iron Man, Cap, and Hawkeye will be the ones who won’t continue in the MCU after Avengers 4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been put on indefinite hold, but the franchise cannot continue without the 5 core members it established in the first movie.

Also, there is no reason to kill off Mantis so she survives as well. Scarlet Witch will supposedly get her own TV show, so she makes it out alive. Ant-Man and the Wasp, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and obviously Spider-Man have their own movies to do in Phase 4, so they will survive. Bucky would probably continue as the White Wolf in Black Panther sequels whereas Falcon and War Machine could get a buddy cop TV show on Disney Play.

So, the ones who will probably die permanently are those who got a mention in the first paragraph. Leaving aside Captain America and Hawkeye for this matter, a Reddior named therealestbignigga has given us his prediction of what may happen with the storyline of Nebula in Avengers 4. His prediction is obviously based on the Time Travel theory which suggests that the Avengers will be going back in time to retrieve all the Infinity Stones so they could prevent the big snap from ever happening. Here’s what it states:

Avengers 4 Theory

“If the Avengers do go back in time and get each Infinity Stone to reverse the snap, we run into a problem: The Soul Stone.

You have to sacrifice someone you truly love in order to get it and here’s where Gamora & Nebula come into play.

Say they do go back in time; well future Nebula will tell past Gamora what Thanos does in the future and they go to retrieve the Soul Stone on Vormir.

They are told the price and here’s what happens: Nebula shares a touching/emotional moment with Gamora before she forces Gamora to push her off the ledge.

I think it will happen for 1 main reason: It fulfills Nebula’s character arc, a pessimistic assassin with a hatred for life and her sister, who ends up sacrificing herself for the greater good of the universe and to save her sister. The only thing she ever wanted.”

While all this looks good in theory, it is missing one big factor that has to be in Nebula’s story arc. Nebula has to get her revenge on Thanos for all he has done to her ever since she was a child. She has to do that for Gamora. She will be making the big sacrifice for her sister, but it has to be fighting Thanos, and not just by sacrificing herself to save her sister.

She has been kept alive story wise because she is the only one who knew the location of the Soul Stone apart from Gamora. So that will play into the storyline. But she cannot go down before facing Thanos. That would just be wrong!

Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula had some interesting insights to reveal about her character when she appeared in a recent convention. Here’s what she said:

“I thought when I signed onto the first Guardians that I was going to shoot for eight days and then die. That’s what it was in the script. The fact that all of this has happened with the character is really surprising, but not. Because when I did the screen test for Nebula, it was quite an emotional scene between her and Gamora, which never made it — it was a fake scene, so it wasn’t in the movie. It was an emotional scene, but I started crying during it [laughs]. And then James Gunn really responded to that, I remember, and then we felt that we’d found this whole other aspect of a character that could have just been bad, you know?”

Nebula will return in Avengers 4.
