EW Confirms Starforce Rescue Mission Scene In Captain Marvel!

The MCU’s Captain Marvel is generating much hype and excitement as EW released an extended feature containing a whole gallery of photos and a detailed breakdown of the film. The trailer is yet to be released but these images suggest that Carol Danvers would have already been part of Starforce and have supernatural powers in the movie, while her days in the air force will be reflected in flashbacks.

Vince Hoover, Captain Marvel’s contributor had this to say:

“In those flashbacks, I suspect that we will see both Danvers and Rambeau on some routine maneuvers when a Kree battleship chasing a Skrull ship enters our atmosphere. They report the incident to their command, who order them to retreat. However, Danvers, in all of her hotheaded glory, insists that she and Rambeau pursue the alien crafts. Rambeau reluctantly joins her friend in the pursuit.”

The plot is set in the 1990’s when Carol Danvers was an airforce pilot with US Airforce. She along with her mates meets with a freak accident, but her DNA gets mixed with an alien that turned her into Captain Marvel. It’s set against the backdrop of a cosmic conflict between Kree and Skrulls where Captain Marvel has been caught in the crossfire.

Here’s an excerpt from EW feature:

“…But before long, Carol finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. And she’s got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls — the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, who spearheads a Skrull invasion of Earth.”

EW visited the sets of ‘Captain Marvel’ and they watched a particular sequence play out, which is shot in Simi Valley, California transformed into an alien planet Torfa with blue sand and massive archways. Carol Danvers is with Starforce comprising of elite Kree soldiers on a rescue mission, but environment gets ugly as thick fog covers the sky, comms go off and shape-shifting Skrulls are about to attack. The scene is really scary and creepy, giving us a sense of the danger posed by Skrulls.

Here’s what Marvel President Kevin Feige has said about Captain Marvel:

“We only focus on one step at a time but that’s all about continuing to surprise with the stories, go unexpected places, continue to play with new, fresh, unexpected genres and then introduce characters that people might have heard of or a beloved big fan base like Captain Marvel”.

“With Captain Marvel, there’s so much potential in the comics and there have been so many incarnations of her powers and the characters who’ve had that mantle that we’ve been focusing in on exactly how do we tell her origin. How does it fit into the cosmic side of our universe? How does it fit into what we’re doing with the next Avengers movies? Really, the focus now is on delivering Captain Marvel, and then bringing Captain Marvel’s story into the finale of everything we’ve started thus far.”

He added “All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had. It’s important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that.”

According to MCU Cosmic report, Captain Marvel is going to be the new Cap and Leader of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who will be taking over the reins from the likes of Iron Man and Captain America. She will be the face of MCU for the next two phases at least.

Captain Marvel is going to be released on March 8, 2019. It has an incredibly amazing cast including Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Jude Law as Dr. Walter/ Mar-Vell, Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan The Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Doctor Miner and Ben Mendelsohn in an undisclosed role.

The official movie synopsis reads:

“The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races,” the synopsis reads. “Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
