‘Captain Marvel’ Star Ben Mendelsohn Reveals Massive Spoiler about Villainous Skrulls

Captain Marvel is the upcoming MCU project which will feature female comic-book superhero at the center for the first time. It is set in 1990’s against the backdrop of a cosmic conflict raging between Kree and Skrulls for generations. The EW extended feature has shared a detailed breakdown of the movie, along with a gallery of photos and amazing insights. Here’s an excerpt from EW feature:

“…But before long, Carol finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. And she’s got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls — the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, who spearheads a Skrull invasion of Earth.”

Previously, it was undisclosed as to which role will Ben Mendelsohn be playing, but it’s confirmed that he is a leader of Skrulls and boss of none other than Nick Fury who wasn’t a high ranking S.H.I.E.L.D Agent at that point of time. He has been working to weaken human defenses and pave the way for full-scale Skrull invasion. Looks like the movie is leading to epic ‘Secret Invasion’ plotline in the MCU Phase 4. Here’s what Ben Mendelsohn said:

“Look…. [long sigh] We gotta deal with the Kree. The Kree are punks. And the Skrulls, I mean, we’re just misunderstood. At the end of the day, the Skrull is really misunderstood. Look, I don’t want to curse in print or anywhere else, but if I could, I would about the Kree. Yeah. I would.”

He added:

“I mean, when you’re Skrullin’, it’s a bit of a different thing. It’s a got a certain flow to it that this guy [gestures to human costume] doesn’t have. Because this guy doesn’t sound like this. This guy is [adopts American accent] a lot more like, straight up, ready to do the work, very military industrial complex certain 1990-whatever. A lot more buttoned up. Skrullin’ is a bit more laid back, a bit tougher. A little bit nastier? Maybe? Maybe. You got sharper nails, stuff like that”.

Here’s what Marvel President Kevin Feige has said about the project:

“We only focus on one step at a time but that’s all about continuing to surprise with the stories, go unexpected places, continue to play with new, fresh, unexpected genres and then introduce characters that people might have heard of or a beloved big fan base like Captain Marvel”.

“With Captain Marvel, there’s so much potential in the comics and there have been so many incarnations of her powers and the characters who’ve had that mantle that we’ve been focusing in on exactly how do we tell her origin. How does it fit into the cosmic side of our universe? How does it fit into what we’re doing with the next Avengers movies? Really, the focus now is on delivering Captain Marvel, and then bringing Captain Marvel’s story into the finale of everything we’ve started thus far.”

He added:

“All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had. It’s important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that.”
