Avengers: Infinity War – Here’s Why Thor Could Not Actually Go For The Head

Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 are the 2 movies that have had the fans going for countless theories predicting, understanding and deducing a number of details from the film. Theories have been around way before Infinity War and they have been around even after it. Infinity War has been such a massive event that it has spawned so many thoughts about the so many things that happened in the movie.

Infinity War

It was a mega movie with the biggest thriller you could ever get to see in a Superhero movie. It was definitely MCU’s most ambitious project to date as it assembled 60+ comic-book characters of relevance, half of whom were superheroes. The movie has earned over $2 Billion at the Box office worldwide, making it the highest grossing superhero movie of all times.

Right from the beginning, till the very last moment, it was a movie that told the epic story of the Mad Titan who left a trail of death that everyone was agonized to see. The Russos and the two writers were quite excellent at explaining the motivations that Thanos had in the film.

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.

According to Thanos, he is doing cosmos a huge favor as only he has the wherewithal to do what is necessary for basic survival. In many ways, he is the hero of his own twisted story. His goal is to rebalance the universe as overpopulation will soon drain the limited resource pool.

In order to fulfill his purpose, he and his Black Order went from one place to another, stealing Infinity stones and assembling them to the gauntlet. In the end, he managed to collect all six Infinity stones i.e Power, Space, Time, Mind, Reality, Soul; snapped his fingers and our worst nightmare came true as half of all life in the universe is destroyed. However, there were so many moments where the Avengers came close to bringing Thanos down.

There were so many opportunities that Avengers had to defeat Thanos and foiled his evil plans for good, but there was always a hindrance that prevented them from actually doing what should have been done.

It could have all ended in the start if Heimdall would have used the Dark Magic to teleport Thanos and the Black Order deep into space. Instead, he was killed by Thanos in no time. Later on, we got to know that Gamora was the only living being that knew about the Soul Stone, so if she would have killed herself way before the events of Infinity War, or even at the beginning, Thanos could never have finished the Gauntlet. She would have died with the secret.

On Titan, if Quill would not have lost his sh*t, the final snap could have been prevented. Even if Wanda would have killed Vision somewhere around the time before the Battle of Wakanda and destroyed the Stone, the snap could still have been prevented.

So, the Avengers lost, but they really came close to winning. This was not just a movie about Thanos, as, among the Avengers, it was a whole new Story arc for the God of Thunder, who indeed turned out to be the strongest Avenger to take on Thanos. He had a final shot right before the snap and he could have easily killed Thanos if he would have gone for the head! Well, if you do feel this way, then here’s a theory that actually suggests that Thor did indeed want to go for the head, but instead he would only stab Thanos in his chest.

Here’s the theory given by a fan that suggests the technicalities of why Thor could actually not get Thanos right in the head:

“IW begins with Thor only having one eye because of what happens in Ragnarok. Rocket Raccoon gives him an electrical eye that Thor then uses, meaning he once again had both eyes. We all know, however, that when exposed to high voltage, technology can fail. In the Battle of Wakanda at the end of the movie, electricity is shown flowing through Thor, and his eyes. This may have stopped his electrical eye from working through a power surge, meaning he only had one functioning eye, impairing his depth perception. With poor depth perception, it is entirely possible that he did indeed aim for the head, but because he had trouble with the depth perception, he misjudged the throw.”

It does seem intriguing even though it is a sort of forced logic if you think about it. Thor did everything he could and so did all the other Avengers including Star-Lord. Despite that, all the things they did led to the big snap, but this will also be the way for the Avengers to actually defeat Thanos in Avengers 4, so if things did not happen the way they did right from the beginning, we would not have gotten an amazing story that began from Infinity War and will end with Avengers 4.
