Tom Cruise Shares First Set Photo of Top Gun 2 And The Internet Has Gone Crazy!!!

It is the era of remakes. After Incredibles getting a sequel and rumors floating around of Beetle Juice being geared up for another remake, the audience is going to hit a wave of nostalgia in the coming years. The moviegoers don’t care if the concept is old. What they do care about is that the content being fresh enough so that it is worthy of lifting their lazy butts and dragging them to the cinema halls.

Top Gun is another such movie that will soon hit the theaters with pretty much the same cast along with a few new additions. The movie is considered a masterpiece and was the prime reason the US Air Force and Navy saw a surge in applications in the late 1990’s. The music too was top notch. Tom Cruise is coming back for a Top Gun sequel fellas and he has just shared the first official set photo of the movie. The fans are dumbstruck. Tom Cruise shares first set photo of Top Gun 2 and the internet has gone crazy!!!

Tom Cruise took to his twitter account to share the good news that Top Gun 2 is in full swing. The picture has taken the whole world by storm since the first movie is by and large the ultimate cult classic. The picture holds the word ‘Feel the Need’ – the Top Gun Motto, as Tom Cruise can be seen in Pilot fatigues and necessary air gear while holding a high altitude, pressurized helmet module and looking at an aircraft in the background.

Here is the twitter pic:

The Helmet that Cruise is holding in the picture holds an interesting inscription. It says ‘Maverick’. Maverick was Tom Cruise’s code-name in the first Top Gun movie. The original hot shot pilot with an attitude that could dwarf Mount Everest and courage as deep as the ocean has come back to haunt us again with his charms in the Top Gun sequel.

The sequel will pick up the pieces of the original movie and Maverick is now a flight instructor teaching young macho pilots how to do it. He always wanted to be a teacher at the school and it seems his wish has been granted after 30 years. Tom Cruise aka Maverick was asked about the Top Gun sequel and he had this to say:

“There’s gonna be jets. Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re going to have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one … but a progression for Maverick.”

Top Gun 2 has been in development hell since 2012. Several screenwriters and directors came, sat down with Cruise, discussed the project, and then silently left the venture soon after. Moreover, Cruise suffered a major injury on the sets of MI-6 which delayed the production a bit.

But fortunately, things came back on track. This time though, Top Gun 2 has officially taken flight. After Tom Cruise shared the first Top Gun 2 set photo, fans are revealed that the production work for the movie has now officially begun.

The script is reportedly written by Peter Craig (The Town), Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) and Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class).

The official title of Top Gun 2 has been confirmed to be Top Gun: Maverick. The movie will focus largely on the main character and how he has dealt with his life since the end of the first Top Gun movie.

There were rumors that Top Gun 2 will relegate Tom Cruise to the role of an instructor, with Goose’s son taking the spotlight as Cruise becomes a mentor to a fresh batch of younger recruits. Safe to say our favorite Maverick is back to cut the angles and twist the corners up above the sky. Top Gun 2 is happening and it will be just what the fans wanted it to be. It will be a complete Tom Cruise show.

Production details and story elements for Top Gun 2 are extremely scarce. The original director of Top Gun, Tony Scott, died in 2012. So this time, Cruise will be joining hands with Joseph Krasinski (Director of Oblivion, which also starred Tom Cruise). The movie will focus on a fresher batch of recruits learning the cruel, violent world through the eyes of Drones.

Top Gun 2 will heavily feature Drone Tech in the movie. There is still no news about possible co-stars that will be working with Cruise in the movie. And while we are at it, let us ask Tom Cruise this – Where the hell is Val Kilmer??? Well, he did express his interest to make a comeback as Iceman in the sequel.

David Ellison, CEO of Skydance confirmed that the movie will be in 3D and IMAX, here is what he said:

“Absolutely, I think this is a movie that should be in 3-D and in IMAX, and again something that you can shoot practically. As everyone knows with Tom, he is 100% going to want to be in those airplanes shooting it practically. When you look at the world of dog-fighting, what’s interesting about it is that it’s not a world that exists to the same degree when the original movie came out. This world has not been explored. It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters are really what the United States Navy is calling the last man-made fighter that we’re actually going to produce so it’s really exploring the end of an era of dog-fighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today are all fun things that we’re gonna get to dive into this movie”.

The original Top Gun movie was released on May 12, 1986. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:

“The Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School is where the best of the best train to refine their elite flying skills. When hotshot fighter pilot Maverick (Tom Cruise) is sent to the school, his reckless attitude and cocky demeanor put him at odds with the other pilots, especially the cool and collected Iceman (Val Kilmer). But Maverick isn’t only competing to be the top fighter pilot, he’s also fighting for the attention of his beautiful flight instructor, Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis)”.

Well, Cruise fans have a lot to look forward to as this is not the only sequel coming out. He is also doing Edge of Tomorrow sequel cum prequel i.e the movie may actually show the epic scale alien invasion that led to the events unfolding in the original movie. Here’s what he said:

“That is the only sequel that I’m considering doing, and it’s because first of all the story is so amazing-much better than the original film, and I loved and loved the original film-and second of all, it’s a sequel that’s a prequel.”

Further, it is directed by the talented Doug Liman and he is very excited about the sequel/prequel. He said:

“I was not going to make a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, I’m not really interested in sequels, I’m interested in trying new things, new places. But we came up with an idea for a sequel that’s so shockingly revolutionary for how a sequel would get made, and it’s so fresh and it’s such a fun story. We only even started talking about a sequel because there was so much fan affection for the movie, that people started asking us about a sequel. There was so much love for the film. It used to be that people come up to me and talked to me about The Bourne Identity. But Edge of Tomorrow is the one that people constantly come up and talk to me about. There’s so much affection for the movie we at least owe looking at it to see if there’s an idea for a sequel and we came an idea that I can’t stop talking about.”
